My AMD 7900 XTX gets the error message too - and has 'issues' with steam performance somewhat. But, with steam link just released it works fine.
It would be great if PCVR via link cable was given some love by meta - particularly as AMD have improved VR performance recently (still not perfect, but...), curiously, my Valve Index has performed perfectly with both 6900XT & 7900 XTX (90Hz+) - sadly the Index failed recently and I bought a Quest 3 - and the sad story continues!

We appreciate your detailed feedback about your experience, @RattyUK! We're definitely always looking for ways to improve our software experience for our players! While we still can't confirm any support for 7000 series AMD cards just yet, we encourage everyone to continue sharing their feedback about their experience. If you haven't already, we recommend checking out the ideas side of the community to see if an idea has already been posted for supporting 7000 series cards through our link software. If you don't see one, we highly recommend creating one of your own! We've seen cases where our engineering and development team has plucked certain, high traction ideas from there, and implemented them into the software!
