"Laggy" Touch Controller Hands

Lavapixel
Explorer

Hi everyone,

I have been chasing my tail the last two days with this issue that I
can't seem to resolve. I purchased the touch controllers, along with 2
extra sensors (4 sensors in total). 2 sensors are plugged directly into
USB 3.0 ports and the other 2 are plugged into USB 3.0 ports using the
USB 2.0 extension cables that came with the sensors.

The tracking is fine, I don't have any dead spots or anything like
that. The issue I am having is that a lot of the time when I put the
rift on and pick up the controllers, the virtual hands are choppy (they
lag behind my actual hands movement). This can also happen to one hand
and not the other. However, the pointer for selecting things is tracked
perfectly and responsive to my movements.

I have updated my video cards drivers, updated Oculus software, etc.
The only way to fix it seems to be to close Oculus Home and restart it
over and over until the controllers are playing nice.

Has anyone else ran into any issues such as this?

Cheers.

Do you still experience the lag when only using two sensors?

Hi TickTock,

Thanks for the reply. I actually have not tried with two sensors only. I will try that when I get home tonight and let you know how it goes. It just seems strange though that after restarting the oculus app over and over it works without issue. This leads me to believe it is software related. I will try two sensors only and update here once I get home.

Thanks.

It could be a defective sensor (any one of them) or a USB controller/driver issue, or a USB bandwidth limit issue, especially if all sensors are plugged into USB 3.0. I would recommend trying to unplug each sensor to find if one is the problem. Then try to split the sensors between USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. You may also want to to try with just two or just three sensors as using four may exacerbate the issue. Thanks.

It's a power problem I believe.mines great on 3 sensors and fine if I plug 4th in when oculus home running,as soon as headset goes to sleep and I wake it back up tracking goes to shit.if I then unpleg headset usb and plug bag in while oculus running all is great.no problem with  3 sensors at all.also here a device disconnecting through  speakers

Just found when touch tracking goes when headset goes to sleep and rewoke all I have to do is un plug sensor 4 and it's fine,I can then plug sensor 4 straight  back in and all is fine untill headset sleeps again.tried and tested many time and is exactly same in steam vr.so reason must be a power bandwidth problem

Sounds software related. How can everyone with four sensors have the same issue even when we use powered USB cards and distribute these devices around. Tired of the bullcrap line saying it's bandwidth or power when it's clearly not.

I'ts probably both bw and sw (and a lttle bs ).  Software works great when it has flawless data feeding it.  It just doesn't deal well when things get a little jumbled.  For me it's a little annoying but it's still fun to play and I am confident there will be a fix eventually.  As a chronic early adopter, I've come to expect this sort of thing (had to deal with the battery fiasco on my Nissan Leaf, a class action lawsuit on my solar array that died, a DJI Phantom quad-copter that tried to fly back to Taiwan, too many things to list on my 3d printer, it's all part of the experience ).

This is a software issue and can be rectified by restarting the sdk using the beta reset on desktop. But you have to keep the headset on.
When you do this it's fine.
Mine is the same with 4 sensors and many other have reported this time be the case as well.

It ain't bandwidth, mine does this on usb 2.0 for the rear sensors AND if they are on usb 3.0
This is my forum signature.
There are many others like it, but this is mine.

Mines awesome with 3 sensors and great with 4 until the headset sleeps then when I wake it my hand tracking in awful. If I unplug the 4th camera or the headset usb and plug it back in everything is fine until it's sleeps again
