"error performing query" when trying to delete broken device from account

I have a quest 2 that is dead and wont work. I get an "error performing Query" error when I try to delete it from my account like so many others Ive read in the forums.  I have read as many other help messages as I could find on this subject and nothing has worked for me so far. My laptop video card isn't compatible with link so the pc app not an option either.  I have a new quest 3 and I just need to remove the dead quest 2 from my account.  I have tried multiple times to remove it via the phone app and the pc website oculus.com and I get the same error when I go through the steps.  does anyone else have any other things that has worked for them or any other ideas?

Hey @VincentsEar. We'd definitley like to assit you with removing your previous device from your mobile app. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Quest desktok app in order to pair the new device to the app? This should allow you to use the active device. If you have any further questions, let us know.  Looking forward to your response.

That was a good idea, but my lg gram laptops video card isnt compatible with the Oculus Link, so says the software.  I did uninstall the pc app and reinstalled it but it timed out looking for my pc in air link and in cabled mode.  It was a good idea though, thank you for the input. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I was out of town.

Hey @VincentsEar Thanks for updating us on this issue. There is a link to a thread about this issue here with various steps performed by some Meta Vr gamers with this same issue. We recommend checking it out for your convience. One of the suggested ways to resolve the issue is as follows:

  • Go into your account on the Oculus website.
  • Then there is a drop down menu where you can choose “My devices” and once on that page, you should see each of your devices listed.
  • You want to click the button underneath each device labeled “Delete device data”

If this does not wokr, please visit the thread in the hyperlink for alternative options. Hope to hear from you soon.

IMG_7409.png I’m having this issue with not being able to delete a non working dead quest 2 when I go to the website you mentioned. I followed the link you gave me from my laptop and from my phone and I get the same error massage. I also get this error message from the app on my iPhone. I read through the fixes for others and they do not work. I did that first before I even messaged for help on the forum.  The last fix on the link you wanted me to read was something about logging out of an instagram account and such, I don’t have an instagram account so that fix isn’t going to work for me either. I did read a lot of messages in the link you sent me  where people didn’t get their old head sets removed at all.   I was just making a last ditch effort to see if anyone knew of any fixes I haven’t read or tried yet,  Thank you for the effort.

Hey @VincentsEar. Thanks for your reply. It looks like the only way to delete the device is to do a factory data reset, or to access the device page in the Meta App or online and select Delete Device Data. Otherwise, we've exhausted all of our options at this time. Thanks for your patience. If you need assistance in the future, you know where to reach us. Best regards!

Hi! I am also having this problem. My Quest 2 worked great last night, but today I had a blank screen. I tried the hard reset and even resetting to faculty specs. Nothing has worked and all I see is the quest logo and three flashing dots before it turns off. I tried to use my phone and the app is not reading the headset.  My last try was to delete it here. I have tried three times and I get the following error "Error performing query."

Is there anything I can do?

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out with the problems that you have been facing.

We understand that it can be like playing hide and seek in the dark, trying to troubleshoot an unexpected issue like this.

So at Meta Support, we want to help as best we can, and get you back up and running again as quickly as possible!

Here is a few general troubleshooting steps that you might have already tried, if the headset powers on, but still no display;

  1. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect boot (such as external battery packs, accessories that plug into the USB-C port, etc.)
  2. Hard Reboot the headset
    1. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
    2. If the boot-up sound is not heard:
      1. Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
      2. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.
      3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

For the 'Error Performing Query' issue-

  • Log out and back into your account online, or using the app on your phone.
  • Clear the cache and cookies
  • Make sure if using the app that it is running the latest update.

From your post it sounds like you have tried most of these fixes already, if you are still having no success after performing these steps then please Private Message us, and we can discuss options related to your account.

Please let us know how you get on!

Thanks!
