v76 install unknown package

After updating to v76, I can no longer side load apks.  Before I updated, I had side loaded F-droid as a developer, and through that installed many packages.  I had also installed apks directly from GitHub.  I can no longer do this.  The Package Installer launches, then hangs.  I've double checked permissions, and everything is enabled on F-droid including allowing to install from unknown sources.  I need this to do my job.

This is related to android 14.

Doesnt look like there will be a fix and apks must be installed through adb on another device.

I know just enough about tech to look like I know what I'm doing.

In my case, I had to build the apk (Unity) using API Level 32 (Android 12) as a target API. It worked, although I don't know why. Not sure, but seems related to the SDK and Android 14, as you said

Sorry, I'm confused, are you saying installer API target level 32, or the installed apps, or both?  In my case, is that just FDroid, or everything?  Because FDroid is currently targeting 30, but works fine on my pixel phone at Android 15...

Sorry, I probably didn’t explain myself clearly. After upgrading the headset's OS to v76, I also updated the Meta XR Core SDK package in Unity to version 76. This version recommends (and essentially requires, to support the latest features) setting the target API level to 32, before I was using the highest installed (34, I think).

With that change, I was finally able to build the APK and run the app using SideQuest.

I'm still not entirely sure why, but it seems sideloading may not be allowed with a higher or lower target API level though I’m not completely certain about the reasons...
