Status: New Idea

There is already a flag (CONTEXTUAL_BOUNDARYLESS_APP) that perfectly turns off the guardian/boundary (with a nice little warning) for Mixed Reality apps that sensibly need it (up to the app developer to decide).

However this flag is not allowed on Meta Store apps or even App Lab apps.

Please please allow developers to upload apps containing this flag. It would help Mixed Reality so much. You wouldn't even need to do any coding. The boundary is an unnecessary annoyance in MR and breaks immersion. For example, Apple Vision Pro does not have a boundary.

App Lab apps are already clearly marked as 'experimental'. So please let developers 'experiment' 🙂

Any update? Please guys we need this!

While I support the request in principle, there's an issue of player safety which can't be ignored. As a Mixed Reality app renders more and more CG content over the user's play space, the real world becomes occluded to them. For example, some apps overlay most of the walls in a room which obviously puts them in danger of hitting a physical barrier.  You've got to understand that this is new territoty for all of us and it's understandable for Meta to be playing it a little safe with this.

App Lab apps, although initially 'experimental' in nature are losing that distinction with automatic acceptance to the main app store so sadly that's no longer a easy solution.

Perhaps some kind of OS level option to only display the guardian over MR overlays might work? i.e. a partial grid over the patches of CG content.

It would seriously help the small teams or even solo devs to create cool MR games, I hope they consider it

Any update on this?

Commenting to stay in the loop on this as well.

We are working on large-space group interactive applications and boundaryless mode is a life-saver. We'd love to use this on non developer devices as well!
