I just saw John Carmack mention this in his OC6 talk. I mean, come on, if there's a chance you can up this thing to 90Hz, even if it's only for desktop mode, then you really should make this happen. Yeah, it's a hassle and cost on your side, but not one customer is going to complain about you making their VR experience the best it can be, especially when from their end there's no hassle involved in getting that.

Here's John Carmack's OC6 discussion about upgrading Quest from 72Hz to 90Hz for Oculus Link remote rendering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMIDaomx0GA&t=1h4m02s I think it's a really good idea.

Or inform independent modders in the community about how they could theoretically do it so you can absolve yourself of any legal issues with the FCC

I'd love to see this, even if it only allows for a better time-warp.

72Hz isn't good enough for any game with fast movement

Yes, would love to see 90hz as an option, especially for Oculus Link. I completely understand if it's not enabled for native games to save battery life.

A 90hz mode could also be made available to devs to use on a case by case basis. Certain games like racket fury / 11 table tennis would heavily benefit from this.

please allow users to toggle on their desktops a 72hz or 90hz mode - 90hz would have less quality.

While I understand the limitation on both the onboard SoC and the bandwith limit of USB-C, if there is some magic that increase the framerate without noticeably compromising visual quality, I'd love to see that. Framerate has always been more important to me than resolution.
