Current Situation
Currently, media management on Meta Quest is fragmented across multiple apps:
1. The Files app stores general media.
2. The Camera app handles media captured with the headset and has its own gallery system.
Proposed Improvement
I suggest creating a unified, comprehensive Photo Library application for Meta Quest that consolidates all media management features and adds new functionality.
Key Features
1. **Unified Photo Library App**: A centralized application for organizing, viewing, and managing all photos and videos, regardless of their source.
2. **Integration of Existing Features**:
- Incorporate functionality from the current Files app and Camera app galleries.
- Maintain the ability to view and manage media captured with the headset.
3. Home Pinning: The ability to pin individual photos or entire albums to the Meta Quest home environment.
4. Slideshow Feature**: An option to display pinned albums as slideshows in the home environment.
5. Expanded Import Options:
- Import photos from external cloud services.
- Transfer media via the headset's USB port.
- Import photos through the Horizon app on mobile devices.
6. Cross-Platform Sync: Seamless synchronization with the Horizon app to access photos across devices.
Benefits
- Streamlined media management with a single, dedicated app
- Improved organization and accessibility of photo content from various sources
- Enhanced user experience for viewing, sharing, and importing photos in VR
- Greater flexibility in personalizing the Meta Quest home environment
Use Cases
- Easily access and view all photos in one place, regardless of origin
- Create ambient or themed backgrounds using personal photo collections from multiple sources
- Seamlessly transfer and view photos from external devices or cloud services
- Share photo albums with friends and family in a more immersive way
This comprehensive Photo Library would significantly enhance the Meta Quest platform by providing users with a centralized, feature-rich solution for managing their personal media in virtual reality.
