I haven’t made an avatar so my character just shows up as a grey man. I don’t care what the avatar looks like, but I don’t want to have to see the arms or torso! Is there any way to disable the avatar or go back to the original oculus transparent hands?

edit: In the comments the feature seems to be in the works!

This should be a choice. I like the avatars so just add an on off switch for the people moaning about it. Not all of us are bothered by it like the very few in this post out of the millions using it.

This is just bad design. Not the arms, but the decision to force them on your users. If you couldn't implement the arms with an off switch, you shouldn't have implemented them at all. Seriously, how hard is it to code an off switch? You could still get your metrics on new features by checking the flags to see who switched them on and who turned them offBut please, deal with the fact that this is a failed experiment and go back to what worked. The pool noodle arms have to go. Mine aren't just rubbery and unnatural, they're wearing the ugliest sweater I've ever seen. It's the first thing I notice every time I turn it on. I can't focus on anything else. Just getting rid of the sweater would be a massive improvement. But getting rid of the arms would be my first choice…if you had actually given me a choice. Just bring back the ghost controllers. I barely even noticed they were there, which is the whole point of having them. The arms are a huge distraction.

They do look pretty wonky, an upgrade is definitely needed. At least the option to disable them for those who aren't interested in them.

Direct touch is a nice feature, still I want to disable my own avatar being rendered at all. Meeting with friends in the home environment it's useful, but any other time it is not and just distracting from an otherwise good user experience.

I'm a little late to this discussion but I agree! The arms are hideous and the accompanying mirror RUINS the immersion. I just finished speaking with Meta customer service to find a way to turn the "feature" off and the darn thing is permanent! No option to reclaim the better appearance.

I feel like this is some ploy to make people interested in Meta Worlds, maybe. All it does is cheapen the feeling of the Oculus and make the environment feel tacky and outdated. If this is any indicator for the future of the Oculus, I'll be looking for a new VR console.

Updated to the latest version, v50, and they're still there. FFS, why can't we have the OPTION at least to get rid of them!? What in your mind makes that an unreasonable request? Or did zucky-boy lay off the people who knew how to get rid of it?

You can get the ghost hands back in version 50 of firmware.

Go to Settings > Experimental > Turn on Direct Touch

You'll notice hands are back, yay but menu is small. To fix menus, on the homescreen, click settings and where all the icons show for passthrough, muting, link, click on the Multi menu icon. Et voila, menu is back to normal!

@huliqan Not sure what you're saying. Can you describe your issue more clearer?
