I speak on the behalf of my studio (5 painters) none of us prefer using the Quest 2 for PCVR and it's left us kind of concerned that Oculus hardware will lean towards this abandonment of a smooth PC experience for working with extremely heavy 3D programs. We actually had to stock up on Rift S before they became discontinued. With the Rift products it feels like the headset tech in combo with Oculus Quill, AnimVR, Tiltbrush, Medium, gravity sketch, etc was heading in an amazing direction and with reliability akin to wacom products. Even the software as newborn as it is, you can feel are developing towards industry standards. To put this as constructively blunt as possible, the Quest 2 was, as a tool, kind of a nightmare this year. The interesting thing is that the options are undeniably there, Air Link, using the Link cable, all trying to create that pcvr bridge for Quest users. It's just that you can just see the drop in quality for performance for using the apps. Even my travel set up, laptop to Quest 2 is a struggle. That combo has generated a white hot laptop experience that only gives me about a 2 hour window before everything lags down. In comparison, the rift S I can spend an insane full 8 hours painting with no problems other than needing a break from just life fatigue. It's given us a sense of worry that Oculus might go the Nintendo route and abandon the highend side of VR when it's been so impactful to us for work. The products have essentially become our livelyhoods. THAT ALL BEING SAID. Each one of us absolutely can't be more thankful that the Quest 2 exists. We build our experiences for it, and the mass adoption of the headset has only been amazing news for us. I just felt the need to report this on the behalf of the industry. If anyone of the industry feels this is an off take by all means round this discussion out. I just have my own preferences and it's a unanimous one for our team. PS Also to anyone who sees this, Quill in my opinion is an absolute hidden gold reserve. If this plus quest was given further love, you're talking complete industry adoption.
