Yeah, I get why you want to make a streaming app that supports Oculus Store on PC directly (YES PLEASE DO THAT)
But holy s**t is this a very idiotic move on your part against the indie devs / lifeblood of fledgling VR.
Mainstream VR isn't here yet, VirtualDesktop making VR streaming easier is part of the key elements to elevate Quest beyond its inherent hardware limitations.
The real solution here? DO BOTH
VirtualDesktop for SteamVR
Oculus SecretSauce (TM) for Oculus Store support
Because there's still plenty of games that won't get on Oculus Store any time soon, and time-in-headset will ultimately make you those sweet dollars without having to step on the little guys for them.
This one app/feature makes the Quest worth the money. Taking it away is just pure greed. You want to turn superfans like me into super haters, this is how. Killing this darling of the community will kill your chances to be a leader in VR.
There is no harm in this and the community is actively embracing your product for it but you are shutting it down for what can only be assumed to be profit. Oculus used to represent the pinnacle of VR technology and now you're blinded by profits.
Also, I can promise you that if you release a feature like this that doesn't support Steam, I will never spend another cent in the Oculus store when I can ********* Steam instead.
Kickstarter backer, long time Rift user checking in, this functionality is the reason I purchased the Quest a few days ago. Please reverse your request to remove this functionality.
