Let's be honest here Oculus, what you really fear is it would hurt Rift S sales if the Quest could do both PCVR and stand alone. The real problem here is not VD having Steam VR streaming, it is your nonsensical product management. Having only one headset that does both would've been a no brainer for anyone looking into VR headsets, making the Quest the go to headset for everyone.
Forcing devs to remove features from apps, disallowing games that are ALREADY sold on other platforms AND doing well, giving no reasons for rejections.. At this point I felt the recent coverage on E3 or any hype generated by developers for their games are pointless. as we don't know if we'll ever get the game or have some feature removed. Disappointing
Again it's time for Oculusfacebook to pull their face out of their own ****.
Their support this launch has been a huge step back, and these decisions are mindblowingly idiotic.
Get a grip Oculus, or nobody will take you seriously.
Still going to buy a quest but as soon as somebody makes an alternative Iâm switching 100% and never looking back. Youâll get me once Facebook but never again.
As a startup founder (CTO) this kind of heavy-handed, no-recourse decision-making makes the Quest a far less viable distribution platform. I was planning to launch a SaaS product built around a Quest-based VR app & web app, but will now have to reconsider what portable VR hardware to use, as I can't trust that a nameless reviewer won't take umbrage at the app features, or SaaS payment model, and make a company-destroying decision after hundreds of thousands of dollars have been invested in development. This shadow is now cast over pretty much any app that isn't a game. This is a huge feature that I feel isn't addressed already by the Oculus Quest, and I believe it should be supported. Not every game is going to be able to run on the Quest, such as Elite Dangerous. This gives users the option to enjoy content they couldn't already without buying another headset.
