As a Quest user itâs been great to follow my favorite devs online, watch them build for the Quest, and stream with this feature. Theyâre actively bringing awareness to the platform by directly providing value to its users. Consider this before banning this feature.
Users interested in this functionality would most likely be adept enough to follow a YouTube/Reddit tutorial on using ALVR or VRidge or some other alternative.
That being said, forcing the Virtual Desktop developer to remove useful functionality he spent months developing, and that end users spent their money on. That is just extremely bad business practice. It reflects poorly on your company, as you can see here...
Worst of all, the end result doesn't change. As the desired outcome is still possible!
Users interested in doing this will do it regardless... Why make yourself (Oculus) look bad in the process?
I'm a day 1 customer of both the CV1 and Quest; as a consumer this ban is unacceptable. Please reconsider your position and allow the functionality to remain.
Yes. Please keep this. I want to try it and it seems like a huge win for Oculus. There are downsides to everything but at least give this a try. And it won's sully your reputation if there are problems with something being played or viewed using this.
Beyond being a lousy thing to do to a developer, I also have to wonder if Oculus attempting to block this feature violates antitrust laws. Poor form, Oculus.
