I just accidentally closed this window and lost everything I wrote. Ugh! So pardon me if this seems short, but now my kid is up from her nap, so I'll be 1/2 distracted.
Had a great call with a former game tech, but this time a woman. Last time I asked for "seasoned" male game dev help, there was a lot of "mansplaining". However, my WIGI (Women In Games International) friend really helped me get my scope back on track.
So, in summary:
At this point, if it's not on the submission, it's no longer a priority
If I REALLY want to use UNITY, it will need to be through FUNGUS and she suggested I "time box" it to 2 hours to get progress, and if I can't get it going, I'll just need to move my efforts to explaining how it should work. I feel that Unity was such a great sponsor, and I did a lot of tutorial work over the summer with not much to show for it. http://fungusgames.com/
THANKS to Dale Henry for posting about HacknPlan http://hacknplan.com/. This beta for a project management tool for game design is just the tool I was lacking to pull together my ideas, the flow of the game, my concept images. Now I can also see what needs to be done and assign tasks (to my husband who feels sorry for me and my non-tech background).
I am also backing out of the narrative a bit to minimize the scope. At this point, I think I'm going to call the project RIPLETTES (based on the goth triplets that act as the player's oracle of past, present, and future information that prepare you for your challenges).
I was able to spend both days at VRLA this past weekend and it was AMAZING (Why wasn't Oculus there?). I saw even more stuff to inspire me. Probably the most beneficial was talking with he people at Mettle http://www.mettle.com/. Since my current company (AKA my husband mostly) is an AfterEffects wizard (and Mettle has the 360 SkyBox plug-ins for Adobe), we MIGHT be able to use our new Samsung 360 Camera and add GRFX for some of the cut-scenes/tutorials. I REALLY love the idea of mixed media.
Also, my 8 year old will be back in school starting Wednesday. So MAYBE I'll be able to really put my head down a few days a week and give this my full attention.
