Week 3: Moki's Adventures

Hi Everyone!

Sorry for the delayed post! I have been trying to get a few things off my desk before diving full-time into this great big rollercoaster ride!

So I've created a thorough blog post of my update on my new Launch Pad Blog and skip below if you like!

Background
The Idea I had hopes of developing while doing this wasn't really an option, so I've needed some time to regroup and focus on what kind of an application I would like to make and that would be indicative of how I want VR to be doing some good, not just for us, but for all.

Challenges
I tried to scale back my ambitions, had tons of ideas, but also struggled with the fact that I've never developed or coded an standalone app myself, not to mention be responsible for designing and building a working demo in VR. So I've been jumping into Blender and the Unity 3D for VR class Shayna mentioned. Both very good!

Process & Success
At first I wanted to try to go with film since I feel I could more easily work with that for the demo than CG, but in the end, the immersive feeling I want to capture is probably best rendered as more illustrative. So I decided to give 3D modeling a shot (gulp). I also need to learn the fundamentals of C#. So identifying my vision and my reality of what I can build feels like a big stretch. Which reminded me of Bernie's talk. I am focusing on my goals. I want to learn how to DESIGN in VR and build something I feel is indicative of the kind of VR content I want to see more of. VR for good.

Miraculously, I let myself go yesterday, surrounding myself with all my favorite inspiration and materials and found my way to Moki's Adventure game concept. I'm very excited and can feel the anxious butterflies even more now because I have no idea how I'm going to pull this off!

Next Steps
I will be focusing the next couple weeks on learning Unity 3D and starting to plan and build a more accurate sketch of my GDD. I'm attaching my crazy calendars here for your fun amusement 🙂

Happy Monday!
Ali
