Hey Launch Pad! Super excited to start this process. The bootcamp was a blast and I learned a ton and can’t wait to start my first VR project.
Since Bootcamp, I’ve fleshed out the concept for my project. Originally, my proposal was to Creating a 360 film for the Oculus Go that highlights the global Ismaili community and the Diamond Jubilee festival. This film will have an interactive introduction that introduces people to some of the history ofIsmailis. Following the introduction, will be the 360 immersive film of the Diamond Jubilee
festival. I was thinking that the film could focus on pluralism, and I could interview about 10-15
people all from different countries about their background, story, and experiences. This prototype would be a pilot test for telling global stories about the global ismaili community within a new, immersive medium. It would introduce people to Ismaili core values such as pluralism and diversity.
Some links to learn about the historic celebration in Lisbon, Portugal:

Though I received permission to film parts of the event in Lisbon, Portugal, it ended up being too last minute to do the film for this specific event since I’ve never done 360 before. So, instead, I am planning on focusing the content of the prototype on AKDN, a network of private, non-denominational development agencies founded by the Aga Khan (leader of Ismailis). I’m currently working with the council of AKDN to storyboard the film. Alongside this process, I’m doing tutorials on the Oculus Go to ramp up my development for it.
Thank you OLP community for all the support I can’t wait to continue to build this out!

Hello! My name is Jesse Ayala. I am currently exploring a few ideas for my OLP project. I am still formulating the subject of my OLP project, but I do know that it will touch on three key themes: 1) Data, 2) Values, and 3) Identity. The working mission statement is:
My experience will uses data sets to create situations wherein audience members express their values. In doing so the audience learns about their identity through the exploration of the topic.
This past week I attended the Games/XR for Change Summit in New York City. After three days of fruitful conversations my development process shifted in key ways I want to share:
To me the phrase “data set” sounds cold and person-less, and it is my discomfort with that phrase that makes me want to use it more. As Cyril Szymczak the VR/AR Lead at UNICEF Innovation (Video Start Time: 00:28:00) states in his talk, data is numbers but those numbers have human faces, and often times the data on the ground is collected from those people living in the experience who we should consider experts. He argues that we need to start seeing crisis data as a presentation of possible solutions and opportunities, not problems.
Resham Sindua a Creative Director at AQKA (Video Start Time: 00:09:00) discussed VR experiences that challenge your values. She examines how Carne Y Arena’s location based setup brings data points in the form of physical artefacts such as shoes and parts of the border wall into the piece to provoke emotional reactions. By creating an experience that moves you, but is hard to determine if it was “virtual” or “real” is a signal of good VR. In dealing with the immigration issue, the piece challenges the audience to see how their expression of values in the piece reflects elements of their identity.
And lastly I wanted to include Kamal Sinclair’s (Video Start Time: 00:02:04) rapid fire talk on how Sundance New Frontiers has celebrates the evolution of imagination, manifestation, and innovation within XR storytelling. As a creator the talk was a great survey of experiences that push boundaries in the form while still delivering stories.
