Wow, here we are in week 12. I'm having such a wonderful time working in the VR industry and finally working on my own personal project with OLP while juggling clients' projects and teaching and planning an Indiginous Futurism XR Exhibit at a large casino in October.

OLP Project Current Status:  I Am Ai
I've got most of the Ancient Intelligence, Onkwehonwehneha content in place for all the scenes. Hoping to record one more brief (2 minutes or less) 360 Video explanation about Kanienkeha Revival / Endangered Language Revival and the role that Literal vs Rough Translations play in Colonization vs Decolonization.

The Kanienkeha Chatbot is performing well in all our testing - not sure if I will have time this week, but I do hope to add some visual effects to the chatbot responses that match the backstory / narration before our final project submit. I plan to add more content to the chatbot's knowledge files while out west for Oculus Connect event (based on my experience and other info gathered during the event & travels).

Beat Saber has been inspiring me; I love getting fun exercise while in VR.  I am considering how physical exercise elements can be integrated into my OLP project with my own world views of the Natural World, Sounds and Onkwehonwehneha. This project has been very organic in that I've kept it flexible based on the rapid changing technologies and each new piece of information I process and learn about regarding XR, AI, iOT and AI technologies.

Blog Post # 12

This week I focused on getting a build uploaded to the ALPHA
channel. I did encounter a few Android Manifest errors, but after generating a
store compatible manifest in Unity, the errors were resolved. Once my build was
uploaded, I created an OLP2018 channel. When testing, I noticed my reticle
wasn’t displaying properly and had to fix that. I also tweaked the fade in/out
times to be shorter. I then sent it off to Gabor to be reviewed and I am
awaiting prototype feedback.

Another crazy week at Virtro Entertainment. We have been polishing some existing games (Zombie Donuts, No Horizon, Run Dorothy Run), making solid Alpha builds of our mulitplayer Zombie / Escape Room game, Platform Z, and the port of The Station to show off at OC5 this week.  Working on 3 other client jobs - with 2 of them coming to a close this week. But some exciting new opportunities and partnerships, hopefully, in the wings.

Of course Argotian has a solid alpha with a good verticle slice showing off a range of functionality, hoping Gabor will have time to give us some feedback. Personally, my family has a film crew following us around for 4 days, for a CBC show, Stats of Life - so it's fun being around a camera crew again - I am definately a backseat director 🙂 but also very disruptive with OC5 and the VR/AR summit literally on my doorstep.

My team did make a sweet new trailer video for Argotian - including it here. This project is really coming along.

Looking forward to catching up with you all at OC5 next week!

This was a week of things finally coming together!

First, I developed out a new look for my DepthKit video - "glowing light being".

6bati8m7n6gu.png

It keeps it from looking like any other DepthKit stuff out there, which is exciting for me! If you've seen enough of it, it becomes easy to spot - and I'm excited to have a unique aesthetic.

Second, I got some new music in from Karri, my composer friend - and that always makes things feel tighter.

Third, everything has been polished and lots of code was re-done now that I have a better idea of how Unity works.

Fourth, I implemented a new sequence - which is always exciting. There is now a TV that...does mysterious stuff!

On top of that, there's lots of re-recorded audio, tightened-up timings, and some new 80s dance music. Just two more sequences to build before I submit! It's cool, I didn't have much in terms of fingernails before this anyways.

After we uploaded a stable build we decided to take it up a notch and implemented push notifications so users can see when they get new messages. we also added an inverse kinematic friend you can interact and dance with when you send your friend an emovji.

OLP18: Week 12
Project Title:
Adventures of PICL Jones
Type: VR Game
Genre: Comedy/Adventure,
Sci-Fi/Western

This week we continued to move forward where we can. Character rigging is going well. One of our characters is a snake-based alien and wears a suit with limbs that are removable. We're still exploring how to accomplish this with the rig, but we may decide to use two different models.

Our prop modeler made good progress on the seat for the ship's coach seating area and she will begin to add textures to it soon.

Our concept artist and art director created a Pinterest page with images for color inspiration.

I've also reached out to a graphic designer to help create a poster and images for the Oculus Store.

Week 12: VR Sea Legs

hr3vmqzmegbu.jpg

Final Content Unlocked!

Zero Gravity Lab

For the final unlock we discover that our Inventor has more than one way to get around the lab… she can turn off gravity and use zero-G thrusters to zip about! We planned this last because users who don’t have experience in VR movement frequently find zero-G thrusters unsettling. At this point in the game, our players should have their VR Sea Legs and be ready to take on exciting new VR games and experiences with little to no VR sickness. They know which types of movement they prefer, and they now know what to look for when they are buying games.

Production Status:

We worked on the advanced level for Shadows of the Vault. Let me give you a little background first.

Vault of Stars is a first-person exploration and puzzle-focused VR story game in early development, written by Colin McComb, creative lead of Torment: Tides of Numenera. The barrier that holds back the Void has fallen, and the Shadows are swarming into the Vault of Stars. As a mote of starlight sent by the gods of the Zodiac, you must find a way to stop the spread of corruption before it finds the path from the Vault to the worlds of life beyond.
Shadows of the Vault is an event set before the Vault of Stars story.

In SeaLegs, you are another mote that has been called down to investigate long-forgotten ruins. You discover unsettling shadow activity and the first signs of the coming catastrophe. The barrier protecting the world from the Void is weakening, and the shadows have begun corrupting the Vault.

Shiny light puzzles!

We also added some fish to the Lab!

Marketing:

The news of our work with Monomi Park on Slime Rancher VR Playground has spread like wildfire! We’re pretty excited, and we’re using some of this energy to fuel our VR SeaLegs marketing. We are looking forward to shipping as soon as possible, since Santa Cruz is right around the corner. Our goal is to make sure all the new players get their sea legs so they can truly enjoy the VR experience.

See you at Connect!

Hello! This is Maria and Gordey, project Bizarre Barber!
We were finally able to nail down the proposal. The director of NYU Game Design department, Frank Lantz reviewed it by himself, yay! Now we just have to make an extra pass on grammar and spelling and we're pretty much done! Of course, there is Oculus Connect 5 ahead and the meeting with our secret adviser  from West Coast.
We got tech feedback from Gabor this week. Everything seems fine with the tech details and Gabor gave us tons of useful feedback about game design and features.
We started to explore parametric character creations in Houdini and Softimage. We'll have hundreds of characters made by algorithm eventually! I don't think we'll have time to implement it in the submission build, but this is in our to-do list for October.
Below is the picture of one of the attempts to make different kind of hairs!
See you soon!
