As other Android stores such as Google Play have quite strict rules about data gathering, I wanted to ask what privacy policies are required and if there were any restrictions to us creating our own Individual IDs for user's devices to gather game analytics.
I am assuming it is a bit early to tell right now, but as the commerce side of the stores is underway I was curious to see your thoughts / current progress on this?
I think the best advice I can give here is "don't be a jerk."
As with Google Play and other app stores, we display the permissions you request to the user before your app is installed. If there are permissions that don't seem to match the functionality of your app (e.g. you want to read the user's account list, etc), we'll ask you to justify them (and you should expect users to be wary). If you are sending data outbound, we ask you to tell us about that in your submission document.
From a practical perspective, mobile analytics packages that are common on other app stores are viable here as well. You should be careful about how much data you send and receive as it can impact the overall battery performance of the device.
But, more generally, just be a good citizen. Trust you users. If you want to collect information about them, tell them this and let them opt out.
