IMPORTANT: Android 5 Lollipop Compatibility

Hi folks,

Android 5.0 "Lollipop" is going to start rolling out to Samsung Note 4 customers soon. The first group of devices to get this update will be unlocked phones from Europe in the middle of January. We have discovered a bug in the Oculus Mobile SDK that causes crashes under 5.0, and the team is working around the clock to get it resolved. Once we have a final fix, all published applications will need to submit an update. Fortunately, this should be a pretty painless fix--just a drop-in replacement of the core VR library.

We expect to have an updated SDK for this in the next few days, but I wanted to give you all a heads up now so that you know that this is coming. Once the SDK goes out, we'll need to get updates with the latest VR library from you as soon as possible to ensure the best possible customer experience.

Thank you in advance for your time on this. I'll be in touch as soon as our updated SDK has been cleared by our testing group.

Hello again!

The new mobile SDK (0.4.1) is now available here:

https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/#sdk=mobile

All apps need to move to this version of the SDK to support Android 5. If you have an app released on the store today, or a submission that is in the pipeline for release, please update your app and resubmit it ASAP! I will reach out to you via our ticket system, and please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions.

If you do not update your app to this version of the SDK, it will crash under Android 5. We expect Android 5 to start rolling out to Note 4s in certain regions around the end of next week. This update only adds functionality necessary for Android 5 support--there's no change in API or functionality.

Our apologies for the last minute fix request.

Hi Chris, I submitted an update via your support@oculus.com support ticket instead of replying/sending to submissions@oculus.com -- is that OK?

Go with submissions, I tried that with support last time and ended up being pushed back as they didn't get the update I'd sent over before the holidays and rejected an older one.

Thanks for the advice Dave.

By the way, I love your Matterport app, especially the slot canyon!

Hi folks,

Samsung has kindly provided a system image to use for flashing devices to Android 5.0. The link is here:

UPDATE: New link!

http://seefx.service.seeburger.com/portal-seefx/~public/b79e123b-512e-44c1-aedf-63d9a4388740?downloa...

This image is specifically for Moonlight developers. Android 5 for the Note 4 is not available to the public yet and it is very important that this does not leak.

If you've submitted a build and haven't been told that there's a problem by us, there's no need for concern. If you have an Android 5-specific bug you're tracking down, use this build.

I downloaded and installed the new binary,
but when I try to download Oculus apps to play VR apps, "connecting to server" fails with a "network error".
(There is not any description about the error..)

Internet connection through Wifi is fine.
Is there anything I'm missing?

You need to tell the inital setup app to use the test server: Execute this command:

adb shell touch /sdcard/go_to_andromeda.test

Then run through the setup. When your all setup, remember to go back and delete the file.

Thanks,

We're hiring Android, 3D, and Web Developers. Take a look at NextVR's job postings: http://nextvr.com/jobs

Oh, I had totally forgotten it. I downloaded the VR setup wizard successfully.
Thank you very much!

Is there any image for the 910g?
