Just an FYI to prospective developers out there, GearVR's submissions team is no longer providing feedback on submitted apps. I've been told this in no uncertain terms by the submission team, and have attached the actual conversation that took place for those that don't believe me.
If you don't have a perfect app on submission, you'll just be rejected with the message "This build isn't passing our QA review, so we wont be able to accept this submission."
If you want to know why, you'll be told "We don't provide feedback on apps."
And don't even bother referencing their own submission guidelines, where it states that "In the event that your app doesn’t pass our initial review, we encourage you to incorporate the feedback of our developer relations team and resubmit your app when you’re ready", because that's "an outdated document".
So anyway, don't bother submitting a GearVR app unless you have a 100% perfect submission.
Thing happened to us on our Gear VR app almost 8 months after the original post. Rejected and no feedback!
This is so weird to me because how are you supposed to make any changes, if you don't know what's holding up the submission?
We checked all of the best practices and are compliant with everything. Moreover, we're just going for the Concept store, which is supposed to have lower requirements for submission. We're working on a full version release now, and we have no clue what we should work on optimizing, whether the type of application isn't wanted, or whether we should just pivot to a different platform.
I can understand if the submission team doesn't have enough manpower to give loads of feedback (though this is Facebook we are talking about, so they should have people). However, if a submission doesn't pass a QA review, then the QA team has declared a reason internally why that submission was not accepted, and this should be passed back to the developer. Was it because of motion sickness? Did it crash? Was text too difficult to read? Too much eye strain? Not high enough quality gameplay or graphics? Inappropriate subject matter?
Could one of the Oculus reps on the forum look into this please? The "it doesn't pass and we can't tell you why" approach is really not acceptable for a professionally run store.
It doesn't seem like a huge ask for developers to be able to expect at least some feedback (even if its as simple as getting the QA failure code). I think everyone understands that Oculus' resources are stretched thin, but total silence doesn't seem very dev-friendly.
I don't get (and would not want) notifcations from twitter. "No one even bothered to reply" after 15 minutes doesn't seem appropriate. I'll look into the app feedback question.
