For the last X months we have been developing a Unity (and soon, unreal) plugin ("PopMovieTexture") for playing movies onto textures.
As this topic seems to come up more and more in this forum, I thought I'd do a call out to see if anyone who is having trouble with their current solutions would like to help me test it (We only have so many devices)
Just in case this immediately discounts anyone, it currently runs on - (All through the same c# interface) - Opengl ES2 & 3 on android and IOS - Reads from APK (StreamingAssets) - Reads from SD cards - Reads from persistent data (download with WWW, then load) - Some streaming has been implemented (above what the OS supports), with more on their way - OSX - Working on GearVr & Cardboard SDK
These aren't ready just yet (in the next week or two) - Metal on IOS - Iphone 5 (5c/5s+ are fine, but 5 isn't decoding any of my movies at the moment) - Windows - Unity 4.6 OSX plugin isn't loading atm (In fact, 4.6 needs more testing in general)
Give me a PM or email graham@newchromantics.com and I can give you a download link. Just trying to weed out the last few bugs/performance issues, and help anyone who is struggling. 🙂
Are you still looking for testers? Lack of a plugin like this for Unreal is what's keeping me back from one project though I would love to try your Unity one.
