Is it possible to put the Go into a Kiosk mode, as in to only play a single application automatically upon turning on the device.

This would be pretty ideal if the home button worked. But I have the same problem - the screen turns black. Did something change in vrshell? According to logcat, when I press the home button this is what happens:

09-26 13:54:00.601 1672-1779/? D/SystemUtils: sendBroadcastIntent - action: 'com.oculus.vrshell.intent.action.LAUNCH' data: 'systemux://dialog/exit'intent_pkg: com.Company.testgo
09-26 13:54:00.604 1672-1779/? D/SystemUtils: VR Shell isn't running.

I don't have a com.oculus.vrshell on my Go. I do have subsets of them though.

pacific:/ $ pm list packages -f | grep vrshell                                                                                                                        package:/system/priv-app/VrDesktopPanelApp/VrDesktopPanelApp.apk=com.oculus.vrshell.desktop

package:/system/app/VrShellHome/VrShellHome.apk=com.oculus.vrshell.home

Anyone heard an update on Kiosk mode after the big keynote?
It would be great if the tech press were to ask them some useful questions - like about the glaring lack of a professional mode.

This is pretty insane that they didn't prepare for the inevitability of this need. I'm working in the education sector with a university that's looking into large scale implementation of VR hardware, and we're already having these problems with the Go's that have been purchased. It just seems so obvious to roll something out, though they must have some kind of internal reasoning for not implementing an update for those of us in need of such a feature. Regardless of these potential internal reasons, it's still ridiculous.
Good point. At Games for Change, the educator panel pointed out that the lack of kiosk mode is a disaster for Oculus in schools, because an active Home button puts kids a few clicks away from objectionable content including porn.

Yes. Being able to administrate Oculus Go to lock down everything else is incredibly needed for a training environment. Porn is like a worse case scenario.

However, time is important as well and if you have to navigate each person who puts on the Oculus Go on where to go that is huge waste of everyone's time. It's possible to do Kiosk mode now - See the new game coming COVERT. I just do not think Oculus has anything officially supporting it. Get on it OCULUS!

In the new update (Oct 2018 139090.3070.0) There is now an option to turn off auto-sleep and disable proximity sensor which is awesome, but I can no longer get apps to auto-launch on boot up using the Android manifest. I also tried installing the KioskMode demo https://oculusgokioskmode.tweaklab.org/ but it doesn't work either with the new update. I just get an error message: Oculus System has Stopped! and I tried installing it a couple times. Looks like they gave us some of what we asked for but also broke our work-arounds 😞

That's bad news. 😞  They really need to make this possible because its wirelessness is the key advantage in a demo/kiosk set up. Been waiting for a definite fix to make kiosk mode possible. Come on Oculus!!!

Anyone know how to get back out of KioskMode and return the device to its normal settings?

It's here somewhere. Somebody's talked about it.  But were you able to achieve kiosk mode? Can you tell in detail how you did it? Was it before or after the update?

You have to hard reset your device:
  1. Turn off your Oculus Go.
  2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
  3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
Confirm and then follow the instruction to set up your Oculus Go.
