Oculus Go Suggestions Thread / New UserVoice channel for feedback

Moderator Update from @OculusSupport

Hey everyone - Just wanted to jump in here real quick and make a plug for the Oculus UserVoice channel. We recently added an Oculus Go section to the site to better collect and organize all the great feedback that is coming in. If you have an idea or feature request for Oculus Go, leaving it on our UserVoice page is a great way to make your voice heard. Just be sure to take a quick look to see if the idea has been previously submitted! Duplicate ideas result in split votes and make it harder for us to track what the true most requested features are. Thanks in advance and keep the awesome feedback coming!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some suggestions for the devs if they need ideas for future software features:
-Download manager
I sometimes will have 4-5 things downloading at once but then change my mind after a few minutes and would like to pause the download, see whats been completed, or cancel all at once. Maybe look at STEAM for inspiration on how to do this.

-REMOVE POP UPS
or have a setting to change them. I was mid game of something and I died in game because the popup was covering the targets I was supposed to be hitting. Also I was watching startrek on netflix and a "download complete"  pop up would be stuck on the screen for what seemed like an eternity. Maybe voice to speach "Download Complete" or SOMETHING to remedy this annoying nag screen.

-Dashboard clock
IT would be nice to have a clock somewhere to bring up. If I'm cooking food or something and need to check if ten minutes have gone by or WHATEVER it would be cool to be able to see what time it is. Or to even keep track of the passage of time so I don't spend all fricking night on damn thing lol. BONUS REQUEST: A stop watch or timer. I say this becuase this is a pick up and play device, and if I'm doing laundry or something it would be cool to have something like this. SURE I could use my phone, but if I have my headphones in or something I won't notice, nor do I want to take the headset off to futz around with this.
-Quick Screen Off button
If I'm downloading a ton of stuff, I want to put the headset down. There should be a way to turn the display off but allow background downloading. I'm not sure if it is already doing this, because there is no download manager to keep track of whats going on. A "turn off rift after downloading and installing" mode (like PS3 does) would be cool too.

A permanent "allow" for USB option would be great!

Very new users to the Go but somethings I'd like to be added:

Night mode: A yellow tint is added to the screen to replace the blue light like phone and tablets have to help before bedtime.

Background audio: Be able to listen to music/podcasts while in other apps which most phone do as standard. Would love to be able to listen to podcasts while browsing the web etc as I do with my tablet.

Airplay App or similar: So can mirror iPhone within the Go to check on message or stream podcast etc without taking the headset off. I know there is Android app that do this so could possible? Dev needs to make I'd pay.

Copy and Paste function from Phone to go: Wish could copy and paste from my phone to the Go maybe within the Oculus App so can paste password's as I used a password manager so lots are random letters and symbols hard pain to have to use the wand and keep looking at phone screen through the gap when signing into website and Netflix etc.

Native remote desktop streaming within the Go: Would be ace if your home or even the start area could remote display your PC/Mac desktop. Can remote play games this way or access your work apps etc..

Just a few things that I'd love to be able to go when in my Go world...

Night mode: turn down the brightness, there is AFAIK no scientific evidence for blue light filtering helping.
Background audio: would be nice.
Mirroring: there is some form of mirroring in the works if I remember correctly.
Copy and paste from phone: Sounds fairly unlikely and specialised.
Remote desktop: There is a third party in beta Bigscreen and Virtual Desktop coming.

I wanted to test out taking 3D pictures, uploading them to my own website, and then viewing them in Oculus Go. The browser in Oculus seems to want to keep everything 2D. It would be cool if you could point at an image, click the trigger, and have it show you the image in 360/3D (or at least give options as to how you want to view it). I think this would greatly lower the bar for people to share their 3D photos, etc.

# Family Sharing!
I plan to buy another Go for my Son. It would be nice if he can log on with his own account using my main account. Because i don't want to setup another account with my payment and address information.
If that is already possible - have not found it yet.

I don't know if we can play games like Death Horizon, Rush or other games together with this, but there should be a possibility for this. For now we can only play crossplatfrom games like AltSpaceVR, and Wands together. I use my PC HMD and he the Go.

# Setting up the Go using a PC/Notebook via Oculus Home.
I just can't tell you how hard it was to get a phone which is compatible just to do the first time setup. I only use Microsoft Windows 10 phones.(i know i know....) I do not own a fully compatible android 6+ phone. The Huawei P8 Lite for example sees the Headset but cannot be paired for some reason(maybe not fully compatible with Bluetooth 4?) The Samsung S4(Android 5) which i lend from a friend is compatible but paypal does not work on this phone(which is a known issue it seems). I can only buy apps and games via the webpage(thank you for this possibility!).

Please let me use my Notebook or PC(i have a BT 4.0 Dongle). For now this is not very consumer friendly - for me at least.

# Another Head Strap
I sold my Vive because it was VERY front heavy and the headstraps were a chore. Something like a Deluxe Audio Strap for the Go would be nice. If you have long hair the strap tends to slip and you have to reseat it all the time.
I would have to wear a cap or something like this to prevent this which is....not very comfotable.
Also i tend to get a VR face pretty fast, even when loosening the strap. It would be nice to have something like the WMR Headsets or the PSVR. Just something that distributes the weight away from the forhead and cheekbones.
My Lenovo Explorer/Samsung Odyssey/PSVR feels so much more comfortable then the Go. I know you designed it that way because it can be stored better when travelling, or when laying down and watch a movie, but please consider this as an option.

# Battery Life
Oh boy...this is like Internet without Flatrate. The 2600mAh battery is empty before you even know it.
This device is designed to be portable, but when i want to use it on a trip it ends up to not beeing very portable.
I always have to use a powerbank, or power outlet to charge it up. Binge watching something with the Go is not possible 😕
An 18650 battery should have almost the same weight(i don't have the specifics - sorry!). Why not use a replacable approach for batteries? This way i could just change to a fully charged battery and off i Go.
I end up charging the Go almost 3 times a day - i would wonder if the battery lasts a year with a charging cycle like that.
I don't know how you will solve this, but when the Santa Cruz Headset also has only 2 hour battery life this will be an issue!

#  Folders!
Please let me create Folders for the content. I would like to have a Folder for Mediaplayers, Social Apps, Games and categories for Games.
I would also like to apply a parantal lock to those folders. I don't want the Kids to stumble upon Death Horizon, Dreadhalls and other Horror Games.

# SD-Card Support.
32, or 64Gb is ok for just the apps, but not enough to store videos. I would also like to just insert the sd-card from my Camera to look through the pictures, without having to copy and deleting stuff all the time. I also have to connect the Go to a PC for doing this. Constantly copying and deleting stuff also hurts the lifespan of the internal memory and i would rather have a very long lifespan for this.

# more ergonomic controller
The Touchpad is to far away to comfortably press the upper side. It feels awkward when games use this for movement.
Also i keep missing the lower side. There needs to be some sort of (i don't know how to express it...sorry) structure or profile, so that i can feel when i reach the side of the touchpad. Somehow i keep missing this especially when i had to move my hand and thumb up to move forward in certain games.

# Quality Control for apps  - if possible
Some GearVR titles tend to stutter, or have crackling sounds. This could be an issue of the Unity engine though.
Welcome to Virtual Reality for example crackles up as soon as the capital ships arrive in the space scene.
Face your fears has the same issue in some experiences and Smash Hit for example stutters a lot and Daedalus does this too.
I don't know how you can prevent this from happening, but the experience is really not that great when this happens.
Those apps are compatible with the Go but just barely it seems. I guess the developers have to do the quality control for this, but maybe you can test the apps beforehand and when the app is fine you could allow them to the store. This would be very restrictive however and i don't think that this is the best way to prevent such things.

# Custom 360° 3D backgrounds
If this is already possible then i have not found a way.
For now there are just the preinstalled background which are just in 2D 360°. It would be nice if we could add our own backgrounds and even in 3D 360°(no full 3D environment like in Oculus Rooms).

# Possibilty to backup savegames
I had to perform a factory reset recently( the support told me to do so) and i lost all my progress and scores in the games. This might not be an issue for several Games but Land's end, The Well and Krypt Crawler are kind of long experiences. It would be nice if i could somehow backup those savegames and even carry them over to another Go.

# Shutdown
This is really an issue for me. When i shutdown the Go it starts right up when i connect a charger to it. This shouldn't happen however. It also only goes to standby when a charger is connected and i shut it down it seems. As soon as i turn on the lights, or the sensor is triggered by something the Go starts right up. Off should be Off.

# ability to move the onscreen keyboard
When typing something in the browser and more specifically in youtube, the OSK occludes the searchbar and thus i cannot see the recommended results. It would be nice to have the abillity to move it around. If that is already possible then i have not found a way to do so.

#  End the exclusivity for Oculus Games - PLEASE
This is hurting VR more then it does anything good. This feels like VHS vs Betamax, or Blueray vs HD DVD all over again. ReVive is an Option to play Games but this Software ha to be constantly updated and is really not that comfortable to use. When using a mixed reality Headset i have to start Oculus Home, Windows Mixed Reality, SteamVR and then i can launch a game and pray that the controllers are working.
I really want to pay you guys for Lone Echo and Red Matter, but you really make it hard 😞
There are also some Crossplatform Games for Go and Rift, but i don't own a Rift anymore because of the screen...if the Rift had a screen like the Go...that wouldn't be an issue for me, but for now i just use another HMD until Santa Cruz or the Rift 2 arrives.
Please sit down with the others and create one standard for VR HMD's. Like OpenGL/OpenVR.
You can keep you own store like all the others do nowadays but please open up! I don't want to miss out on Red Matter/Lone Echo/Robo Recall just by using a Headset with a higher resolution. As it stands now only Steam offers an Open Platform. You really should consider doing the same - please!
It feels like i cannot play my games anymore just because i bought a new 4k monitor.
Or i bought a new wheel for my racing sims and they all suddenly stop working and i now can only play games specifically designed for that wheel.

# I strongly believe that VR is the future so please keep investing and bring out great Hardware like the Go 🙂
We are far away from Ready Player One style HMD's but i think we could get something similar in the next 10 years or so. Just don't let it die like it happened back in the 90s.
It feels so awesome to meet up family members in VR even when they are miles away from me. Only VR can provide this kind of presence.

Have a good one and bye 🙂

Just pair it with your mobile phone and use the memory card in that. It is super easy. I watched a video straight off my phone yesterday.

Have a good one and bye 🙂

i agree with you for the SD-Card Support

Just pair it with your mobile phone and use the memory card in that. It is super easy. I watched a video straight off my phone yesterday.

Can you pl explain how you watched a video off your phone?

Please add Chromecast mirroring so can show whats on the Go to tv or Chromecast receiver. With the OS being Android with skin you could tap it into the setup thats already there same as the Solo?

Also have Google Assistant integration to same as my first suggestion already built into the Android OS just add as feature.
