Exporting obj/fbx with separate layers

Is there any way to export a project for use in ZBrush etc. and keep layers separate?

It's should already do that, the exported object is a multi-object based on layers in medium.

Im not in my office at the moment, but Ill check it out when I do get in, I have Zbrush on that system,

From what I remember zbrush ignores groups in obj files, unless you tell it to, there should be a tab in zbrush called SPLIT, after you select "Sub Tool"

and an option called Split To Parts, ill try and get you a screenshot when I get a chance.
