TL&DR: Medium is a very nice toy, but it's hard to be productive in it.
After playing for few hours with it, I have some ideas that might improve this software for professional artists, without ruining accessibility for beginners.
-Almost very tool needs an alt modifier, that will allow user quickly switch to alternate mode. Example - for clay tool, to cut holes you need to open menu, select "Erase", and close menu. Needs to be faster, preferably holding modifier button on left controller (like the one we got for alternate tool). Every sculpting 3d software has this - primary function can be switched instantly to it's opposite.
- We must be able to select same tools for primary and alternate, but they must not share settings. This will be extremely useful in many cases. Like, you can paint using 2 different brushes with different color.
- Desperately need move/pull tool. Smudge doesn't do much. If there's no room on the palette I suggest removing useless swirl.
- Need an option to customize brushes and my palette. Would be great to have my own selection of saved tools with different settings. Time saver.
- Need bigger color swatch accessible from menu. Right now only 3 colors in it.
- Eyedropper tool takes too long to select. It also needs a button modifier for quick operation, like Alt key in Photoshop.
I am a professional 3d artist and I'm looking forward to work in VR. Those are just first steps but I see tons of potential in VR sculpting.
Camera photo Capture is warped Horizontally and Vertically - is this getting attention very soon ?
Layer Resolution status would be super helpful - ie SDF stats - 10% 50% 80% resolution.
Add layers from the pallet are renamed eg- Layer1 Layer1 Layer1 But from the main panel its name is sequential.
Add transform drops the pivot at Oculus View floor - This would be way more helpful to be at Grid Center.
A Psudo Add Transform ie Layer group would be very cool - or I could just use an add transform as a group. A quicker option would be way better.
Grid snapping options should be easier to access - hidden in the main pallet is cumbersome compared to the previous versions. Plus the jump from meter to cm is huge, so tuning the slider -+ is also finicky.
Grid Snapping is currently slipping - I guess your aware of this Bug - its behaviour is where the tip of the tool is stamping which in turn creates non accurate snaps.
Group Isolated Layers could be a great way to Layout poses and reduce Layer hopping.
Support hand select 5 layers below also may help - as selecting individual layers and parenting is also a slow process. Basically Shift select layers to move to somewhere.
Also I'm not sure medium is remembering my settings across the board - ie colour is always white when I start - but some settings are saved.
Sorry I'm sure you guys are aware of most of these - look forward to that polish of medium to come 🙂
I'm new to Oculus medium and like the new way to create. What I missed is a "airbrush" effect in the painting. I can control the opacity , but I need control the flow. Spay with low flow get less and less transparency over time. It is not so fast, but it gets a fine result with more time. Like a real airbrush.
Add an asset store: this will fund development of medium for your team and speed up to provide the features the community is looking for. It will also allow users to submit their work to the market, like Unity and Unreal Asset Stores, providing overall quality content like stamps etc for us all to utilize.
I'd like to see the mirror's constrain manipulation toggle in an easily accessible location, such as next to where you can directly toggle a layers invisibility/visibility and isolate buttons
