Anyone actually successfully used an Oculus Quest (link) via Bootcamp on a Mac out there???

Hi,

I would like to get a Quest but would sincerely like to know if anyone has been successful running a Quest via Bootcamp and Link on Mac OS. I have an iMac with decent specs and I can't afford to buy both a Quest and a gaming PC. Plus I don't have room for another PC.

I want to play Elite Dangerous VR and Eve Valkyrie VR on a Quest, plus of course be able to show friends Beat Saber and Super Hot on the go. Love Elite Dangerous and it would be INSANE to play it in VR!

Any help or insight from folks who have actually RUN a Quest on a Mac via Bootcamp/Link much appreciated. I have little hope, but hey you never know.

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,
McKay Stewart

I don’t think we have any active Mac users here on the forum, but I do see the topic come up on Reddit now and then. It can be done, depending on your hardware. “Decent specs” is all well and good, but there is a specific list of supported GPUs that you need for Link to work. I don’t know all the ins and outs of Bootcamp, but I think some people have also run into issues with getting the right video drivers installed to make things work. You might have more luck on Reddit, given the larger sample size, finding someone who has a similar Mac and can guide you through getting Link up and running.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

My 2016 MacBook Pro with a Radeon Pro 460 works functionally under Bootcamp with both Link and Virtual Desktop. However the GPU performance is not good enough to use regularly. Perhaps one of the newer MBPs would work better. I ended up buying a relatively inexpensive MSI laptop for this purpose.

Apple's move to ARM looks like putting an end to Bootcamp and Rift/Quest use on those machines completely. I know Windows is available for both architectures but apparently there's a licencing problem for non-PC ARM machines.

Just got an iMac with 5700x 16GB card and I have tried both Rift Link and Virtual Desktop. Virtual Desktop works better, Rift software constantly telling me my video card isn't supported and won't even let me run population one. On Virtual Desktop it works perfectly, runs population one from rift store at top graphics settings and and perfect 90 fps/hertz. Other steam games also working great via Rift Link and Virtual Desktop both. When I run steam games via rift link it doesn't complain about incompatible video card. Virtual Desktop still preferred method.
