Crossbuy is a essential feature and here is why:

Lately we are seeing more and more developers not enabling crossbuy for both oculus quest and pc.

In my opinion that isn’t a smart thing to do for several reasons:

  • allowing
crossbuy wont hurt you. On new game releases, it’s very unlikely people
would buy your game twice just to be able to play on pc and quest. If
they just buy one version anyway - giving them the other version for
free doesn’t cost you a penny as a developer.

  • Oculus
Link has to be seen as it’s „own plattform“. The big reason to buy both
a quest and Vr capable pc is to be able to „switch“ between mobile and
stationary pc playstyles - very similar to how the Nintendo switch
works. If people just care about mobility - there wouldn’t be a reason
for them to get a pc in the first place (outside of exclusive content
maybe). If people just care about high power / beat graphics - a mobile
Vr system like the quest isn’t the ideal fit. There are superior
headsets for that exclusive use. The whole reason people got the link
setup is the switch expierence - if your game doesn’t support that, it’s
a strong reason for people to actually not buy your game.

  • no
crossbuy gives people a bad feeling - the feel of missing out. People
need to make the decision to either wanting to play mobile on their
quest native or with better graphics on their pc but won’t be able to
use the main feature of their headset (mobility). So no matter what
People do, buying your game wont feel like they are making a good deal.
That makes it a lot more unlikely for people to buy your game in the
    first place.

Im aware
that development for quest and pc Vr is vastly different, don’t get me
wrong. But the pc version gets developed for people that own native pc
headsets and the quest version gets developed for quest users without a
pc. So the Development costs for both those copies are necessary anyway.
Oculus link should be seen as its own plattform that neither belongs
100% to quest native or pc but that benefits from both version beeing
accessible. If that’s not the case, the whole reason for oculus link to
exist is pointless.

Offering cross
buy on new releases is a strong argument for people to buy your game.
Don’t see it as a way to loose money - you won’t . The link players will
buy your game, you will earn money. It doesn’t matter if they have
access to 2 versions or not
