Extending the link cable?

Yesterday, the cables I ordered from Amazon arrived...
  • UGREEN Extension cable Amazon ASIN B00P0ES0YE
  • Anker PowerLine+ USB-C to USB 3.0  Amazon ASIN B01M5GMZ6X
Despite an initial audio problem, I soon had it working & very pleased with the results.
I did have to plug in into one of the pc’s rear USB3 sockets though, as the front ones don’t appear to work with it.

I had an idea... what if I added an extra cable..or possibly two?
So I ordered two more of the Ugreen extensions & they arrived this morning.
I know some of you will say “it probably won’t work” but... you’d be right ?

The Quest worked brilliantly with one USB 3 cable & one extension (it totals about 12 feet)
but when I plugged in a second extension I got the “Quest not detecting pc” message.
So if anyone else has the same idea... I wouldn’t bother.

i do have a couple of spare extension cables now though ?

I think if using passive cables for anything more than around 16ft / 5m you may have issues with connectivity. Also the more chains or links you have in the connection you may have issues. These active extension cables from Lindys look pretty interesting if you need a longer tether https://www.lindy.co.uk/usb-c4/8m-usb-3-0-active-extension-pro-p7312

Or https://www.lindy.co.uk/usb-c4/5m-usb-3-0-active-extension-cable-p515, if you don't need as long.

But they are overkill for what I need..

Looks like you got the same cables I recommended, so glad to hear they are working for you!

Yes, they work quite well. Thanks for the recommendation ?

Thanks for this one too, but for the price it’s probably an overkill for me too. With the others being so cheap I thought it was worth a try.

cheers,
Steve
