Oculus Link + RTX 3080 or RX 6800XT?

Which one would be better for Oculus Link (+Quest 2)? Nvidia 20/30 series cards would have better vide encoder/decoder, however 6800XT has 16GB memory that would support higher resolution for supersampling purpose.

I've not found anything that causes a problem on the RTX3070 yet.. so I suspect either will work just fine with all the current VR games.

Personally I'm waiting for the 3080ti w/20Gb Vram because my Flight Sims (like X Plane 11) seem to want as much Vram as possible.  This is supposed to be out early next year so in the meantime I'll just soldier on with my gtx1080ti.

Yeah, thinking along the same lines. Now the Quest 2 is looking so damned incredible in sims it will be well worth the investment. Just gota be patient 🙂

Agreed, but 3070 16GB Ti could be an interesting card too, also for power consumption - might be the best bang for the bucks too - depending on Nvidia lifting the performance significantly compared to 3070 plain vanilla.

After more than two months I still cannot find any RTX3080 that have ready stock and sold at the price that Nvidia promised. If there is a 3080Ti next year, it would available only after Jun 2021?
6800XT has 16GB VRAM already, my only concern is the video encoder/decoder quality for Oculus Link.

The hype easily blindly pushes you forward. Thinking more about it, I got solid 90 fps using Boneworks with the Valve Index res 200% and 2xMSAA using my GTX 1080 8GB - and I've completed Alyx and I don't usually replay completed games (my backlog is too long). Room VR play like a dream Index res 200% too.
Better performance would be nice in Asgard's Wrath, but it already runs great due to ASW 2.0 - really feels like 90 fps. Thus it's mainly a luxury upgrade, like Tom I don't mind the wait.

Well, for at least now - if some awesome VR game arrives where I really need 100+ % more performance then the situation will change. I doubt even Medal of Honor Above & Beyond will be a great challenge for my 1080 though,  and I do not care for sims.

Another thing to consider is that my rig is working perfectly - there's always a risk of trouble when upgrading. Several users have had problems with 3080 and 3090 with Index and Rift hmds. Waiting some months might not be a bad idea.
