Please anyone kind enough to help me on this. I had an RTX 2080 and a 2700X cpu. Now i have a RTX 3080TI and a 5900X and the oculus software still suggest the same resolution for Oculus link, 72hz and 1X 3616X1840. What is the correct recommended res...

@vfragos With high end gpu's you can pretty well ignore the Oculus recommended settings with your Q2 and just try different ones yourself to see what you like best. I have an i9 9900k/rtx3090 combo (currently win10, nvidia driver 496.13, v34 on Q2, and v35ptc desktop app) and I've found the sweet spot for me using Link (I'm using the new VR Cover 5m premium link cable) with all my PCVR games/sims is; Oculus device graphics 80Hz and res slider full right (=native Q2 res). Oculus Debug Tool (ODT) settings all default/zero's except encoding res width 3664 (1:1 scaling with Q2), bitrate 500, link sharpening Enabled. You need to restart oculus runtime services after making changes to ODT (top ODT menu or restart the PC desktop app.
I can easily also use 90Hz refresh rates but I do not see any improvements over 80Hz. 120Hz also works ok with simple games like BS but for more complex ones like MOH or flight sims I need to drop the encoding slider graphics settings down at least a couple of notches so I don't bother using this. Even with the standalone I don't find the experimental 120Hz works all that great. Just reduces visual and battery runtime and also heats up my headset. Still worth experimenting to see for yourself.
With Air Link (which is what I now mainly use) my settings are the same except I set the ODT bitrate = 0 and in the rift home dashboard menu far left menu I set the bitrate to 200mbps Dynamic. You need a good router/wifi setup to use Air Link. Just checkout the Oculus Support website for requirements. Basically, your PC ethernet wired to a 1gig Router with dedicated 5Ghz wifi close by, preferably in the same room.

With Air Link I power my Q2 with an external 20000mahr battery pack (with 5V/2.1A output) and a short 1.5ft battery cable. I got both from Amazon. I just use a couple of velcro straps to attach this pack to my rear headstrap. This nicely balances my Q2, taking a lot of weight off my face, and gives me almost unlimited runtimes while maintaining my headset battery at 95% charged. I just need to top off my external battery once or twice a week. This is the cable I use;

I have a similar setup as you (3950x w/3080ti. I have mine set to 120hz (with 120hz enabled on quest 2) and render resolution 5408 x 2736: slider all the way to the right, and I'm not having any issues. I'm leaving my Quest 2 plugged into power brick via link cable and using Air Link to PCVR, and it seems to be working perfectly! *Quest 2 currently at v34, PC currently at v33*

Link is slightly better for distant objects because of higher bitrate. Not a lot in it imho and I prefer the freedom of wireless:
