Quest 2 IPD Setting

On my Quest I have to set the IPD adjustment to the widest to get achieve the clearest picture. There is 4mm difference between the max IPD width on the Quest 2 and Quest. Will I see a difference?

I've had similar concern. My IPD is 73mm. The Quest 1 barely accommodated me. Learning that the Quest 2 has even shorter distances has me a little anxious.

I think you'll be fine with the highest option on the Quest 2

Impossible to say for sure until you actually try imho.

I’m going to give the Q2 a test-run with my 50 year-old eyes with an IPD of 75mm in a couple of weeks...and if it’s too unusable, well, I’ll buy a PS5 instead 🙂

If anyone with an IPD of >71 is able to test and report that would be much appreciated. Mine is 72 and trying to play with my Q1 set to 68 literally left me cross eyed.

So I received my Quest yesterday and have spent a good few hours testing it with some different games. I was initially disappointed with the FOV, as on max setting 3 I could see black vertical lines when I was looking around menus during setup. Then I remembered I should probably have left the headset to fully charge before use, so I did that and kept and open mind.

Once charged I tried several games, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Robo Recall Unplugged, I Expect you to die and Red Matter. Red Matter has now been Quest 2 enhanced, it already looked good on Quest 1, but not looks even better!

Once I was immersed in games I didn't notice the reduced FOV, I'm sure it is more restricted than my Quest 1, but I have sold it now so can't compare. What I do notice is the clarity is vastly improved and SDE near enough not visible. I will be keeping my Quest 2

Also I know VR Cover have a Quest 2 replacement interface which I will probably pre-order as soon as available (which it isn't in UK yet) Their thinner cover increased FOV slightly on Quest 2.

If anyone has already received a VR Cover interface for Quest, I would be interested to know if it does make any FOV increase?

my IPD is 74, I received my Quest 2 yesterday. I can definitely see the improved resolution and notice it is way faster than my Quest 1. I tried to use the browser, the text is much more readable than quest1. the device is lighter as well. the face cushion is very soft and comfortable, I like it. the packaging box is more streamlined which is welcomed

However, the reduced IPD sucks, not only it has narrower POV, but it makes me very uncomfortable to read any text not only in web browsing but also in game. I feel dizzy after using it compared to Quest1. Switching back to Quest 1 makes me so much more comfortable even though it has very obvious screen door effect. I really want to like the Quest2, it has been improved so much, but why they removed the adjustable IPD and reduce the IPD? the only reason I can think is Facebook decides to reduce the cost and make it lighter while sacrifice a small portion of the customer like me. I guess my face does not meet the requirement of Facebook. BTW, another con is I find the oculus link resolution is lower on the Quest 2 than 1, but this can be fixed in future sw update I believe. but for now, if you want to play Alyx with Quest, Quest 1 is still better.

I will probably sell it or return it after keep trying for another week.

Just measured my IPD and it is 63.5. I guess I am right in that sweet spot, using the center lens position

I used one for about an hour today and with a 69 IPD I have to say the 3rd setting is disappointing. I can see the edge of the panels and there's some blur to the outer edges that I could probably resolve if I could just manually move the center outward a tad. Besides that, it's a nice picture. I'd hate to see what people with wider IPD than mine experience.

I'd say you will have a bad experience with the Quest 2. My IPD is about 68.5 so the clarity on the 3rd (widest) setting works for me. HOWEVER the FOV feels super narrow compared to the Quest 1, especially since you can also see 2 significantly obvious horizontal black lines on either side, aka the edges of the screen which makes the FOV even more narrow. The image feels like a square vs a portal, if that makes sense. If the original quest view looked like (O)(O) the new Quest 2 view looks like |[0]|[0]|. It definitely feels like a downgrade from the original and actually breaks the feeling of immersion for me. I'm really surprised they released this headset.
