Quest 2 User Reviews and Impressions

Maybe nice to have a thread to collect Quest 2 user experiences?

I'll be happy to start with one from Oculus SubReddit:

First thing I noticed was the black levels are no where near as good as the Quest 1. But oh damn, that display is sharp.

SDE is NOT gone, but it is massively reduced. I notice it mostly looking at UI and reading text.

Thank God setting 2 fits my IPD best because the loss of FOV in setting 3 is really bad.

I was gutted the elite strap has been delayed for me but I was pleasantly surprised by the built in one, it feels more comfortable to me than the Quest 1 strap so far, let's see how I feel after extended use though.

This might be a placebo, but is the tracking more responsive? Just feels like a sliver of delay has been shaved off.

I wouldn't say that entirely. Routers provided free are usually rubbish - and those by the big rip-off merchants (like BT, Sky, Talk Talk and their types) but my ISP doesn't provide one unless you buy it. They have a selection of about 5 and the one I bought is the best WiFi router I've ever had (a Billion 1800AXL - they stopped doing TP-Link which used to be their recommended make). I played Quest wireless using VD in my living room with zero issues for a while after I bought it.
(edit - just spotted that they do have TP-Link again now - the Archer VR600)

They also completed the set-up config, changed the default IP address and make a decent password to use - and were of great help on the phone when I wanted to change the config (they don't usually tell you the log-in details to stop the clueless from buggering it up). Best ISP I've come across, and this is my 2nd stint with them.

I don't feel I need this WiFi 6 yet - but will probably look at it for my next router. The decent ones usually last me a while.

@JohnnyDioxin was that with Link, or wireless w/VD, or both?  Thanks mate.

Wireless through VD - I can't remember how it was with Link, but I aim to do some more checks later and make some screens.

Thanks for that @JohnnyDioxin. I stand corrected, or rather clarified.

Who is your ISP? I'm with Virgin and it's almost been a year. When I joined they said I could just call up to stay on the lower rate. I'm pretty certain I made sure to confirm what they said because I remember at the time being surprised. As it turns out, no, you can't just stay on the same rate. As I said, I'm not surprised, but I'm not happy that I was effectively mis-sold, even if the salesperson made a mistake. To be fair, I've previously been with Virgin for years and years, always been happy, but if there's a good alternative I'm not going to stand for being mis-sold.

I don't really want to go so much OT so I'll pm you the info - it's IDNet, though, if anyone else is interested.

I'm going to post this here instead of the original thread, to keep everything on topic.

I was following up on something I had stated previously, about Quest 2 vs PCVR vs the current Market:
Zenbane said:
I'm not going to spend a few $1000 just for one new game (Alyx) lol

The more I thought about it, the more I realized:
The Quest 2 has proven to be valuable for the market in which it resides.

It isn't about Facebook abandoning the Rift, or Oculus walking away from PCVR. It's about VR, as a whole, failing to grow as a platform.

Today I saw a new post on the FB VR Group where a user expressed this same sentiment. I would say that... now with the influx of new VR Users Quest 2 brings in, we're likely going to see more and more people take notice of the complete lack of AAA titles available.

Some of the responses he got,

Had you called me, I would have warned you

Everything is a disappointment compared to Alyx. Maybe 1 or 2 titles can compare..

Half life alyx set bar so high. Unfortunately most other games fail. Lone Echo is next best thing to Half Life Alyx then Skyrim really cool with around 90+ mods but no where near as immersive. Unfortunately we have to wait for triple A games in production.

Overall, I think it's fair to say that Quest 2 is the right move since there are only a few titles that make high-end PCVR worth the cost.

@Zenbane - I know a fair few people who are happy to pay the price of a high-end PC -VR Headset just so they can play their sims. I'll agree though, if I wasn't into sims, then I doubt I would spend big on a PC -VR headset because of the lack of AAA content.

I just think it's a real shame we haven't see more AAA games for PC -VR, but I have to ask why more devs haven't used kickstarters or something, if they felt scared they wouldn't get a good enough return.

@RedRizla - completely agree that there's a market for exclusivity. I once bought a machine solely to play the MMORPG, Age of Conan. lol

Within the PC Gaming community, it's common for people to spend a great deal of time/money on their preferred hobby; which can, at times, be a singular reference to a Racing or Flight SIM.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I think the overall issue at hand though, is when we look more at the mass market and the overall industry. When we get that bird's eye view, the sparse AAA selections become painfully apparent. Seems you and I are in agreement here!

As for kickstarter, perhaps the problem is the length of time. It takes 3-5 years minimum to create a proper AAA Game. It's probably better to just get funding from Valve or Facebook instead of Kickstarter.

But since everyone is reporting either losses or mediocre returns, then I think it's safe to say that the only AAA games we'll see over the next 5+ years will come from the likes of Microsoft and Valve; and only when they feel like throwing some money away lol

I changed the texture size to 2560, now I can't un see it.  How am I supposed to go back to the default setting after that?  There is a slight lag / frame rate drop doing this so I won't keep it that way but man........

I think the answer is more porting  of existing triple a games into vr. I really enjoyed the ones I played. Hitman 1 2 and 3 is coming out in January for psvr  and I'm going to buy it. The lack of triple a games has made me do more pancake gaming.

Quest 2 has got more PC players attention than i thought it would. I check finnish PC gaming/overclockers forum regulary and Quest 2 opened flood gates. Just in 2 weeks VR thread went from post per week to two pages more per day and those guys dont care about lofi Quest 2 exclusives. Lots of simracers too, who are trying their best to tweak everything out of Link.
