Quest 2 User Reviews and Impressions

Maybe nice to have a thread to collect Quest 2 user experiences?

I'll be happy to start with one from Oculus SubReddit:

First thing I noticed was the black levels are no where near as good as the Quest 1. But oh damn, that display is sharp.

SDE is NOT gone, but it is massively reduced. I notice it mostly looking at UI and reading text.

Thank God setting 2 fits my IPD best because the loss of FOV in setting 3 is really bad.

I was gutted the elite strap has been delayed for me but I was pleasantly surprised by the built in one, it feels more comfortable to me than the Quest 1 strap so far, let's see how I feel after extended use though.

This might be a placebo, but is the tracking more responsive? Just feels like a sliver of delay has been shaved off.

if you are a sim racing fan, theres quite a lot of very good pcvr titles.
sim racing is made for vr, more so than FP shooters.
sadly there are still many game makers in the racing genre who think VR is not worth it.

The problem with Alyx is that the game is so far ahead of anything else, Asgardians included, and is a complete outlier compared to all other VR games and apps. We cannot expect to get more Alyx class VR content for many years - if ever.

It feels like I'm getting 2-3 x better performance and visuals with Alyx compared to Asgard's Wrath. Thus textures and poly levels feel much better in Alyx outdoor locations than in Asgard's Wrath.

It will be a great problem if new Quest 2 users expect more Alyx class content. Then again, Half-Life 2 still reigns as the best PC game on Metacritic 16 years post-launch. I guess pancake lovers would be in the same boat, forever waiting for something to be better or equivalent to Half-Life 2, lol.

Yea I placed Alyx above everything when I played through it. (Haven't gone past the initial starting area since) It's a true AAA title and the best VR game I've played out of the couple hundred I've played. I've not played a game before where I spent more time looking at the walls and admiring the scenery than actually playing lol. The amount of detail on the alien flora/creep is simply incredible in VR. That's not to say that Alyx gameplay is bad, I quite enjoyed it. The metro like survival horror mixed with the cool tricks of VR (The Russels/puzzles) made for a great

That said, I doubt Valve even made much of a profit if any on Alyx but it does seem to have greatly inspired them internally by the positive feedback. I would bet the next game will be flat screen half life with VR support included so they can cash in.

More than 1 mill now own Alyx - if 1 mill bought the game that may have paid (most of) the costs of making the game, as 1 mill sold would be $40 - 60 mill. And it all goes to Valve, they don't get to pay 30% to Steam 😉
The SteamSpy numbers include free copies to Index hardware owners, but 1 mill owners was a milestone achieved several months ago, the game may very well have sold 1 mill copies today.

Also Alyx is used to sell Indices, just like Oculus, MS and Sony make exclusive games to sell hardware - thus each Index kit sold may fund Alyx devs. So Alyx profit may be directly tied to Index sales.

I wonder just how many persons who'll buy Quest 2 to play Alyx, it's probably not a small number.

i like to read this thread and after reading about the quest 2 black levels and color changes compared to the original quest i decided to create a test video and share the link here, it took a whole day to make edit and upload but here you go:

Never could see the difference in videos, need to wear the hmd. Or you need to take through the lens shots, but there's typically too much light or the camera interferes with the black levels, so lcd looks extremely black - but not inside the hmd 😉

Pretty sure that's a video to use from in VR/Virtual Desktop

Ok - that does make much more sense, lol - but I don't find it hard seeing the difference, real apps like Gloomy Eyes and Affected The Manor show the difference very well.

Yea, he did set it to different levels of brightness and numbered them for a more accurate comparison which is nice.

i added a godrays test pattern too, watch it in vr using virtual desktop youtube player, look up or down to see the god rays better when watching the video in vr.

I think I have an immunity to godrays. They never since the rift has been noticeable to me.
Maybe someday they will make a godray vaccine so all can enjoy not noticing them.
