Hello I just tried using Oculus Link on my Quest and it says that the hardware in my PC is incompatible. However, I have a NVIDIA GTX 1060, which is supposed to work. Please help me.

Does Quest Link work with the Surface 3?

No, do a bit more research and I think you will find that none of the Surface laptops are VR-ready (and link still needs a VR-ready PC).  For example;

I have heard that some have got them to work in low quality (60fps) mode with some WMR headsets.

The Surface Book 3 has a 1660 Ti with 6GB VRAM and in windows Mixed Reality it works just fine; you can play any number of VR Games; The 1660 Ti is also listed as a compatible graphics card. There is no reason it shouldn't be made to work.

You do realize that this thread was started and about a Surface 2?  If you think a Surface 3 would do the trick then maybe go out and buy one and let us all know how well it works.

Ok, sounds like you got this to work with SteamVR with your SB3 w/1660ti.  Have you been also able to access Rift Store games with Link?  Does not sound like it.  Thanks.

OK so very late to this party but I have an SB2 and only got my Quest 2 two weeks ago.  After researching forums and a several hours of trial and error I landed on whats needed to get VR working on my SB2 to play EA SW Squadrons. I figure its a recent tile so should apply to pretty much everything else thats out there - needless to say, its been made possible by various patches across the SB2, Oculus (and EA Squadrons) stack in the least two weeks.

I'm not spectacularly technical so can't explain why what works (so please don't ask me questions) however this process worked for me and I documented it thoroughly just in case I'm ever faced with this nightmare again.

Sadly, because I'm a noob to this forum, it's preventing me from presenting my full post because it contains various links to all the various SB2 addons, upgrades and software patches that I used to get there. So until that's lifted, email me at Turveybird@gmail.com and I'll reply with the PDF.

For every other peasant that does not have access to a gaming PC an just wants to esperience VR on their beloved SB2 (and whilst not completely glorious, it is fantastic and completely playable) I hope this helps.

That's great news @cbutters and @Turveybird! I have struggled to get things going on my SB2 for a while; many on this thread seem unaware that the SB2 and SB3 hardware does have both the computing power and the wiring needed for using Oculus Link with Quest - no direct connection to the GPU needed for that, just a (very) fast USB port and cable along with a decent graphics card. The Oculus stack has been very finicky to get to work though, seems there are leftovers from old installs that effectively block new installations from allowing my SB2. Will send you an email @Turveybird to compare notes, maybe I can get the Oculus stuff to work too!

Thank you Turveybird.  After following your initial instructions I still had issues with Oculus App and the Rift Dashboard (Quest 1 on Service Book 3) reporting incompatible GPU and not launching apps.

Until ... I followed your further directions and bought Virtual Desktop and that has been working great, combined with Steam is working really well.  I haven't extensively tested it but have played a couple of chapters of Half Life Alyx without issues.  Now I don't launch Oculus App / Rift Dashboard at all.
