I know the quest id a good product but i'm really wandering if is ok for me to buy it, here is why.
First the only rift i missed was the dk1 (still looking for one just for collecting purpose)
I bought the DK2, ordered the cv1 on the second day, bought gear vr for my (at the time) galaxy s6, and got the rift s when it came out.
Now, knowing i have all those headsets, i'm looking at the quest.
My gf like vr but is not really into it, she like to watch "the landscapes" but since i prefere horror games or simulators her usual reaction with them is a laud scream of terror  or a fast run to the toilet...  o:)
my question to those who already have the quest, is it worth to buy it? or is it going to take dust on a shelf?
I like the idea of using it around or outside but i literally have no idea if i will do that, what has been your experience? did you started taking it out or did you ended up using it as a rift, only with lesser graphic  and no cables?

it's all personal preference..

get a quest if :

you want to be able to play cable free.
take it wherever you go (don't use it outside in direct sunlight, shaded areas only).
be able to demo it to friends at any location.
you don't mind battery life is only 2 hours unless you use a battery pack.

Don't if :

your going to buy a link cable but you already own a rift s

Me personally I own a quest and have a friend that has a rift s and he's here playing the quest more than i'm at his house playing the rift s.

I have both Rift S and Quest.
I use the Rift S about 95% of the time, and maybe the Quest around 5%.
It is fun to be able to use the Quest easily anywhere in the house, but the games I play are primarily PC games and my Rift S works great for them.

I have used Quest with Link also to play some of my PC games.
I would not consider my Quest a waste of money as I am glad I got it, but I could also just as easily done without it.

good to know your opinions, i'm tempted on buying it, a batterypack should be easy to get (or do i need a proprietary one) also, since my gf seem to like vr (but not exactly "my vr") maibe i can  give it to her to use primarely... hmmm

I decided to give it a try.  As much as I hate Android it looks like a half decent VR Headset and will be a good alternative for when my CV1 or it's cable decides to bite the dust.

I >>had<< both - the Rift S and the Quest.

I played 6 months with both and sold my Rift S for initial price short before Alyx was released.

The Red Matter was the first game where i thought "Oh wow, those Rift S panels are not for me ..." some comparisons on HL:A showed the same again ( yt, vr discussion boards etc. ). Yes, they are a bit sharper but the other cons weight more ... atleast for me.

Apollo 11 HD on Rift S showed me how bad those lcd panels really are compared to the oled. It wasn't fun at all to fly through the empty grey space with the Rift S ... wait what?

There are enough threads and yt videos about pros / cons on both - for me only the cons of the Rifts S and why i love my Quest ( with my cheap link setup ).

- Rift S has no mechanical IPD slider, so i can not adjust this good enough for me
- Rift S fov is smaller compared to the Quests fov ( for me )
- Rift S lcd panels are pretty weak in contrast, colors and the dark areas / shadows are more like dull grey ( i can't stand that )

+ Quest can be used with Quest apps completly free and with VD/ALVR you can play PCVR games wireless
+ Quests oled panels are superior in contrast, color, dark areas / shadow etc.
+ mechanical IPD slider
+ better fov ( not sure why but for me it looks like Quests fov is a bit wider / bigger )
+ i can use a 25€ link cable setup with 8m cable and play my Rift S games too
+ i can take the Quest wherever i want
+ with 1-2 tweaks in the Oculus tools i can get nearly same image sharpness as on Rift S ( increasing the resolution to current max )

So for me it was clear to keep the Quest because i don't need two devices + all the positive aspects.

Is the Quest woth it? YES, if you get a cheap link setup and a better headband / halo or whatever you like because the balance of the Quest is very front heavy.

I say it really depends on your budget, if you are going to be on the move, and the type of features you maybe want.

As other pointed out in the feature differences - that can make or break someone using the Rift S and Quest alone. Some people have bigger heads and eye spacing making the Quest the go to unit even with the other draw backs. On the other hand - if you are mainly a PC user - then I say go for the Rift S just because its going to be more design around using the PC in general anyways. On the other hand, if you are more like me - you have a bit of time between not at home and on the move, even if you are mainly a PC user, then Quest is a good balance between the two. While Quest and Rift S cost the same - you do have to throw in a few things for the Quest - from a cheap battery pack to the Link/cable it self. Not totally a killer thing - but its there you, you know?

Mmm if you are going to to wait a few more months though - maybe be a bit open to the idea of waiting instead. There is rumor of another headset - possible "Quest Pro" or it could be the "Quest-2-GO" and it could be "cheaper" or with more improvements. If you are planning to get one now though - I say take the jump - more likely that thing wont be out till end of year or start of the next one so you will get the value you plaid for it out of it.

There will be no Quest Pro or Quest 2 in the near future. Quest released early 2019 and you normally have like 3-4+ years for a new version. And the second point is that with the link mode out a few months ago, why should they NOW push another version while the Quest is selling so good. They would make feel thousands of customer feel betrayed when suddenly pushing next iteration so quick.

A Oculus Go 2 or Go Plus would be much more i could think of. The gap between Go and Quest in terms of usability is huge and how many of the Go to they sell?

The waiting game is for people who want so save money or wait until they are back in stores but not to hope for a product refresh.
