So the latest update messed SteamVR up because of addons..

It doesn't launch when starting a game from steam, it doesn't even open when you launch it manually.
If anyone encounters this, disable all addons and test one by one which one causes problems.

mmnthy7x6rcw.pngVery strange. I just tried ALVR and steamVR home started like normal. Tried riftcat and same issue, as with virtual desktop.

I think it's better to attribute things like this to incompetence or stupidity rather than to immediately assume it's due to maliciousness. It's best to try to approach every interaction in your life that way. Even if there was maliciousness, you won't be so upset about it if you had instead just assumed stupidity or incompetence and then forgave the offending party for said incompetence because we all make mistakes sometimes.

Of course, it does seem like the mistakes come pretty often from the people who make the software for the Oculus devices, but that's why people rated you funny, we know they make mistakes, there's no reason to assume it's malicious. People are dumb. It happens. They'll fix it.

One suggestion that might help... Have you tried launching Steam VR while your HMD is connected but when you're not wearing it? Do this, and open the Steam VR settings. Turn on Advanced Settings if that's hidden, and check to see if there's any disabled add-ons that might be causing the problem. If that doesn't fix things, check to see if Steam VR needs to update.

There may well be some weird interaction between Steam VR, the Rift app, your headset, and your computer's specific hardware causing the problems. But it's definitely not Oculus deliberately limiting Steam VR.

I recently had a lot of issues with steamVR too; chugging performance and some issues with a couple of games launching.  Not sure if it was related to the oculus update or something on steam's side.

I had to uninstall steamvr, use CCleaner to clear out any left over registry entries then reinstall it.  Just FYI doing so will reset your steam home environment.

DUDE, IT WAS THE ADD-ONS
I disabled all three, restarted steamVR and it worked right away..

Keep in mind, the Virtual Desktop Streamer (quest) add-on is probably what allows you to launch Steam VR while unteathered using Virtual Desktop. So disabling that may well mean you can no longer use your Steam VR games while unteathered.

I didn’t know there was a SteamVR add-on for Virtual Desktop. I use the stand-alone streamer app from the VD website, and I’ve never had a problem with that.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

I didn't know that either, perhaps it installs with the app. I didn't install any other plugins.
Yeah i don't need VD, it performs like crap for me, while the other 2 run flawless.
