My third-party cable works perfectly fine but I cannot enable Oculus Link with the $80 cable that I just received. The oculus software will detect that the quest is plugged in to my USB-C port, yet I get no pop up to turn on Oculus Link and It wont work manually either because the quest doesnt know its plugged in.
I've submitted 2 support tickets with no response. I've also posted on reddit and I found that there are other users with this exact problem. They have also submitted tickets with no response. I'm about to send it back for a refund, but I really want this cable to work.
I have an on off relationship with my link cable (third party anchor). Sometimes it works and sometimes it stars loading only to exit to the quest home screen.
An interesting finding and update for the Oculus community:
I purchased THE ORIGINAL OCULUS CABLE. That cable won't work. Cable for Quest 2 and Quest - 16FT (5M) - PC VR - Black I paid a total of $86,-- The Brand Cable itself will not work. It seems they messed up something.
THE CHARGING CABLE ITSELF, THAT COMES WITH YOUR OCULUS QUEST 2: USE THAT ONE TO CONNECT AND IT WILL WORK.
The cable is basically just for charging. And you can't obviously use it for playing games. But at least you can use it for copying .pkt files.
I have to say, it's very disappointing to experience that craziness. You are buying all the original parts from Oculus. But the original Oculus Link Cable doesn't seem support anymore the Socket from the Oculus Quest 2.
I really wonder that nobody at Oculus was ever testing this freaking cable? It's crazy. Besides that. I still couldn't find a solution to connect the Quest 2 with a 16FT (5M) LINK CABLE.
I ended up buying the Virtual Desktop and going this direction. But you also need to invest in a rock-solid 5GHZ Router. Or even better. Get a 6GHZ.
Quest 2 +link (official) (v21 and v23) Windows 10 (v20h2) it takes me a while (two days), but finally works for me.
you must have install microsoft visual c++ 2015-2019 package. in the oculus folder (support/oculus worlds/home2.exe), try to run home2.exe, if it say "required microsoft visual....." you know what you have to do.
i'm running it on a usb 3.1 gen 2 type C (MSI z390 gaming plus)
I have MSI GF65 Thin Laptop VR Ready as the sticker states. It has 2x3.1 USB C and 2x3.1 USB A ports. My Link cable just wont connect to OculusQuest2, neither will the charging USB C to USB C cable. In both cases I get only power that's it. Cable that came with my external HDD - USB A 3.1 to C cable works fine I can connect to quest,, the only problem is cable is like 5 inches long
Original Oculus link cable USB C to USB C works like a charm with the mentioned NVMe external hard disk enclosures with speed up to 490 MB/s. Charging cable works also, albeit much much slower 50 MB/s (USB 2.0 limitation). Everything tested on the same Laptop. It would confirm that ports are working and cables do too.
I did all the tricks in the book: Plugging cable to oculus first, then to PC, Disabling USB legacy support in BIOS Diasabling internal graphics MSI vr ready on and off Installed newest and older NVIDIA drivers, disabled overlay. Updated chipset drivers. Installed Oculus drivers multiple times. .NET libraries are ok.
Even my old Usb 2.0 A to C 3m cable works ok, but with warning about bandwidth limitations. Is there a Oculus god out there what would accept some form of offering for making it work?
I just found myself having this issue too. I was playing fine last week.
Today? Link Cable will not detect headset on PC but will charge. I changed ports and usb controllers to no change.
If I use a 3rd party cable, it connects by USB2 but I show the device in my Oculus devices list, unlike with the link cable. Not sure what could have changed recently. Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19042.685] is my current OS
I have a 1080 Ti and Intel I7-7700k plugging cable into PC either by type c direct or into other ports with an adapter. Same as I was doing in prior weeks Edit Oh, I saw a confirmation connect attempt using another USB controller that is USB2.
Is there any sort of condition history for USB ports saved in the Oculus software? It appears to be ignoring ports or controllers over time or some condition.
I had my old rig and checked the hell out of my USB drivers as well as using all the IT troubleshooting skills at my disposal (As I work in IT, It's extensive), no luck at all. I built a whole new rig about 2 weeks ago and the Oculus software is still telling me the same thing. "Connect a to a USB 3 port blah blah blah". I figured it was because my old rig was 7+ years old and the USB drivers hadn't been updated in a while.
New rig: Intel i7-10700K Asus TUF Z490-PLUS Mobo 64GB Corsair LPX 3200 DDR4 Asus TUF RTX 3080 OC Corsair 850W PSU 1TB WD Black NVMe 500GB Samsung Evo 870 SSD 2TB WD Green HDD
I've also tried on my work laptop. Still no luck getting it to recognize anything other than USB 2. What the hell is wrong with these cables that are specifically designed for the Quest and other VR headsets?
