WiFi on Oculus Quest 2 just broken

Nickelbink

Hey everyone!

I received my first Quest 2 on release date and did the setup, during the setup, my Quest already just randomly disconnected from wifi (after the update was done and it had restarted). No wifi would show up in networks and even after creating a 2.4GHz standalone network for the quest, it kept disconnecting.

Evrytime I restarted, the Quest would have less than 1 minute connection and then just disconnect and not show any networks anymore. After talking to support, and still not having fixed the problem, I returned my Quest 2 and asked for a new one.

So now I'm here, with my new Quest 2 and it has the exact same problem. It shows networks and can connect for less than one minute, and then it just seems as if wifi is fully broken.

Also, if I turn off wifi for a bit and then turn it on again, it seems as if the wifi just doesn't want to turn on at all anymore.

I've just factory reset my quest and it doesn't want to connect at all anymore. So I'm stuck, can't do anything. Only just skip through the first few steps of setup to be stuck at an empty network list again.

Connecting via phone says "Name or password is not correct" while it definitely is (I have checked 10 times, and my phone itself connects perfectly). I have tried setting up a 2.4GHz network, and a 5GHz network, both also at a fixed channel.

Can somebody please help me with this?

(Oh btw, the ticket oculus support website gives a 403 forbidden error constantly, sooo.. that's not gonna work, and I'd rather have proper help now than waiting another 3 days before another "Try troubleshooting" answer 😞 )

Did you ever find a solution for this? We have just received our 2nd quest 2 (sent the first one back) and have exactly the same issue. No mesh wi-fi here either

I seem to be in the same boat.. received my Quest 2 a few days ago and have been trying to connect it to my network for hours.. I havent even been able to get through the setup as the connection lasts literally 10 seconds and then drops out... And, thats the very few times it even finds any networks. How does a $600 item even have this kind of problem without resolution?

I have tried several different ways to connect or even find networks.. 2.4 and 5G are separate networks on my router, so I tried both.. no luck... Ive tried to find networks with both the Quest2 and the phone app.. If it happens to come up with Networks on the phone app, it comes up with the Wrong SSID or password error.. Ive tried using my phone as a hotspot, and the few times it was actually found, the connection lasts 10 seconds.. Tried reboots.. hard resets... modem reboots... the only option I havent tried, but very close to, is Kung Fu kicking this $600 piece of plastic over the fence... (yes, Im pretty **bleep** frustrated at this point)... I bought this for my daughters birthday (and myself shhhh!) which is tomorrow, and now we'll both be empty handed on the day..

I had the same problem, but I found that my Quest 2 can connect where my neighbor's wifi doesn't reach.
It looks like a particular wifi is blocking the Quest 2 wifi function.
Can you try connecting to your hotspot outside such as in a nearby park? (Then Quest 2 should reboot there)

This is old, but seems like may be a fix..totally resetting your router from scratch though.

I havent tried that, but theres nowhere locally I can escape the neighborhood WiFi's haha.. I will give that a go when I can get away.. thank you for the idea

Thank you for the reply... I did find that before I posted here but didnt try the solution at the time, as I thought I shouldnt have to do all that with a brand new device... none the less, I gave it a shot with no luck.. latest update for me is: I noticed the device only finds and connects to a network when the battery is at 100%.. as soon as it drops a couple percent, the connection drops out and wont find any networks until the device is back to 100%.. unfortunately, even with the charger connected, it doesnt stay on 100% long enough to update and setup the device..

That’s such a shame. I would think it’s gotta be some software glitch then.

ive got 2 different quest 2’s a d had a quest 1 and haven’t had any connectivity issues on any of them. Just crazy that you and others have the issue. I bet if it could connect long enough, it would just update to the latest firmware and be fine.

I'm sorry, my explanation was bad, but it doesn't have to be a space without other wifi at all. Such as in other buildings, if you escape from others' wifi that can be observed in your room, the connection may be successful.
In my case, if I boot Quest2 in my bathroom where the wifi of others becomes weak, the connection succeeds and does not disconnect. (But the wifi will be disconnected as soon as I leave the bathroom with Quest2.)
I hope this will help.

i had or posted in similar threads to this several months ago.  my quest out the box worked fine to do its firmware upgrade.  i never knew which firmware build it was, but after upgrading to v23 it pretty much became a brick!  if it could see my 5g wifi, it wouldn't go past the wifi network selection step.  it either failed to connect, or just stopped listing any wifi networks at all.  i had to turned 5g off on my mesh!  with 2.4g only it was fine.  5g has been off for months.  v25 and now v26 have come.  i've turned 5g wifi back on again today.  i'll see what happens!

from all the people having issues with wifi, its pretty obvious to me its a compatibility thing.  i don't think there is much oculus can actually do about it.  they're waiting for a better driver to be made available to them. then they can package it in an oculus firmware and provide is to us.

hopefully their support has better info to work with now.  when i was seeking help, also sorts of random answers came at me.

finally got around to trying the quest.  the answer was...  5g wifi is still useless and makes the quest unusable.  turned it back off again. 2.4g mesh is fine.
