@PITTCANNA

Thanks for the reply

This could be the thing that pushes me into pressing the Pay Now button on Amazon.

It wouldnt be so hard if my Quest 1 had ever had any issues but the fact is it hasnt

they make no mention of bringing air link to the q1.

Honestly i doubt they can, the 885 chip would not give the performance required for the unlocked airlink, the xr2 has the bandwidth to spare.

I’m pretty confident that Air Link will eventually be rolled out to the Q1.  As already evident with Virtual Desktop the Q1 is easily capable of very good pcvr streaming..  in the meantime I’m happy continue using both Link and wireless with VD.  While Link continues to improve (enough to allow me to finally retire my good old Rift cv1) I still find that I often (but not always) get better visuals w/VD.

i tried and returned a Q2 and Elite strap 5 months ago because I didn’t think it was a significant enough upgrade to my then only 5-6 month old Q1.  A few Q2 experimental and mobile VR game exclusives are not making me want to run out and buy a Q2.  If anything it’s got me using my Vive Pro w/Index controllers more and more.  It also has resulted in me avoiding Oculus store purchases in favor of the Steam store.

Like you i held off.

I tried my sons Q2 and was impressed mainly because it seemed so much crisper then the Q1 and i liked the controllers .. Another strange thing was its not actually as white as it seems in screenshots, Its more of a grey.

Still on the fence here although the Mrs said get it if you want ... Really not helping.

🙂

I have both.

Heres my 2 cents.  Its what's not there technology wise which is why i love the quest 2

lighter weight

better controller feel

comfort all day with the elite strap and fit kit.

no sde with the increase pixel count

90 and now 120 hz support, game changing

controller battery for weeks even months

even if you get airlink on q1, your going to be at 72, when you could be at 120 soon

72 vs 120 for racing sims is a big deal

Arrrgghh

Dont ... Stop it 🙂

Of course your right on all counts. I will have to sleep on it 🙂

@PITTCANNA I'm very happy that you are very happy with your Q2.  Even though I returned mine for a refund ~5 months ago and have since stuck with my Q1, I agree the clarity and reduced SDE of the Q2 is pretty hard to beat, esp. with all standalone mobile VR games and for watching media.  This improved clarity/sde did not seem to me to be quite as evident with Link or wireless w/VD pcvr and in darkish games the Q1's OLED gives much better blacks/contrast.  That said, the Q2 lcd's are the closest to OLED's that I've ever seen.

The much longer Q2 controller battery runtime is also a very nice improvement.  However, replacing my Q1 batteries once a week with ready-to-go eneloops is not that big a deal for me.

As far as refresh rates go, like everything VR, I think this depends on the individual.  Personally I saw a pretty big improvement going from 60Hz with my Go to 72Hz with my Q1.  However, I have not seen much improvement going to either my 90Hz Rift cv1 (now retired) or 90Hz Vive Pro (my main ride with all my sims).  Even with action/music apps like Synth Riders I cannot tell the difference between my 72Hz Q1 wireless w/VD and my 90Hz wired Vive Pro.  Maybe because I'm such an old fa*t I cannot move fast enough to make a difference, lol!  Also, I don't see any blurring with racing sims like assetto corsa.  Not like I can in 2D with my 144Hz gaming monitor at 72Hz.  I think that some of this is due to the higher latency inherent in all pcvr headsets maybe masking things.  Plus of course, lower refresh rates require less resources (which may allow you to use higher graphics settings) and may result in longer battery runtimes and may result in less heat build up.

While I found the Q2 with Elite strap pretty comfortable I didn't find it anymore comfortable as my Q1 with padded backstrap and a 20000mahr external battery strapped to it.

So, for me, I've decided to put off getting another Q2 and will just wait for something new and improved, maybe sometime in 2022 (who knows when?).  Cheers mate.

Quest 1 works fine with Air Link, tested myself. There is only 1 reason they don't activate it: Sell more Quests 2's.... That is why i have features from the manufacturer.
