Won't link to gaming computer

Hi there,

I bought my daughter a new gaming computer and was assured it was compatible with connecting the Oculus Link. Can anyone see what the problem might be....it has the following spec:

• AMD Ryzen™ 5 4600H Mobile Processor with Radeon™ Graphics

• Windows 10 Home 64bit, English, Dutch, French, German, Italian

• AMD Radeon™ RX 5600M 6GB GDDR6

• 8GB, 2x4GB, DDR4, 3200MHz2

• 56GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive

I was assured it was compatible with connection to Oculus Link but I get the message on screen saying it doesn't meet the minimum requirements but I've checked the criteria and thought it did.

She only really wants to play VR in Roblox which is a bit of a waste of a gaming laptop but it's really disappointing that it doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

The desktop gpus are usually much more powerful than the weak laptop gpus. Even if Oculus says they support the AMD 5000 series that may not cover the weak mobile gpus, like the 5600M.

If your using a very new cpu or gpu, it may take many months for Oculus to officially support it.

Be very careful buying weak mobile gpus thinking these are even remotely similar to the desktop gpus. A desktop 5600 XT is about twice as fast as the very weak 5600M gpu.

That said, Roblox doesn't require much gpu power - if you can move beyond or close the error messages, maybe it can still work.

Thank you Rune SR2. I had no idea that the laptop GPUs weren't as powerful. It was an expensive mistake to make. I still couldn't get the Quest 2 Link to work so bought a RiftS. Expensive just for Roblox but it was her birthday and has been asking to play Roblox VR for over a year!

You're welcome, as written Roblox may not need much gpu power, but maybe more some cpu power - still your laptop should be fine for Roblox. Problems may primarily arise in more advanced VR games - Beat Saber should probably also be working fine.
