2 totally different headsets and 2 totally different experiences, if you want to play untethered and have complete freedom to swing your arms about like a complete lunatic (if that's your thing), knowing your not going to rip the headset off or damage any wires or pull your rig off the desk, then hell yea get a quest, If you want it to mainly play PCVR then no either stick with what you have or upgrade to a riftS
I’m continuing to use my CV1 for now rather than Quest Link. The Quest has better lenses and higher resolution, and looks better than CV1 in some cases (better fine detail), but the compression artifacts can also be seen in other cases—I particularly noticed it in dark areas when playing Half-Life: Alyx. FOV is identical, audio and comfort are better in the CV1, and I prefer the CV1 controllers (although the differences are minor).
I would say that Link is a great option for Quest owners who want to get into PCVR, and Quest makes a pretty good PCVR headset for users who can’t comfortably use Rift S (due to IPD being too far outside the average range), but I wouldn’t buy a Quest to replace a working CV1. If my CV1 were to die, I would be happy to use Quest Link in its place until a next-gen headset comes along.
I went from the CV1 to the Quest, the Quest is a far superior platform thanks to the embedded Android system and the Inside Out tracking. I've found the tracking is much better than a CV1 with only two external sensors. Additionally, the Screen Door Effect is greatly reduced on the Quest, whereas it was very noticeable on my CV1.
I haven't noticed any artifacts using the Link cable in Half-Life: Alyx but the ability to play cable free is definitely the future of VR. Since FB have a much more captive audience with their Quest ecosystem (as the wireless experience is vastly superior to wired), I am sure they will continue to support the Quest.
I have CV1 and quest... I like them both..But I think the quest ...and its future family/upgrades is where we are heading..Its a great device on its own even if not yet powerful as a PC linked headset. And one that is easily portable to "Share the VR experience" with others
Ive been playing Thrill of the Fight lately..its a heck of a workout! Down 5kg during lock down just doing this as my exercise. Just make sure you have plenty of wipes to clean it after as man it can get sweaty in there 🙂
