Anyone else having issues with 2080 and Rift?

I haven't seen anything else online about the pain that i'm going through so maybe it's just me.  I've had the customer Rift unit since release and it's never had any issues before.  With the release of the 20xx Nvidia cards I decided to build a new PC around the new card.  Everything with the build was flawless until i tried to setup my Rift.

The Rift setup program sees the unit, sometimes, but while pairing the Touch controllers i get an error saying that i'm having a hardware issue.  If i start setup again i see that the Headset and the Headset USB are not being found.  Unplugging and reconnecting it doesn't fix the issue. Some times unplugging all of the USB devices from the computer resolves makes the headset come back, but not always. Rebooting the computer usually makes it come back.  But every time you start the Oculus setup program it fails and when it fails the unit isn't found anymore until rebooting (or fighting with the usb ports).

I tried everything that i could think of in the bio, installing the motherboard and chipset drivers... nothing mattered.  I even went out yesterday and purchased a PCIe USB3 board, still made no difference.

The weird part is with all of the install failures I managed to get the Touch controllers paired and then skipped the rest of setup and went back to setup Guardian and Roomscale.  Now if the system sees the head set, it seems to work just fine.  Some times when you reboot, or wake from sleep it doesn't see the Rift so i've been rebooting the computer until it does.  Once it does, games work just fine.

Am i out of my mind?  I'm hoping that there is a problem with the 2080 drivers or with the the combination of the 2080 drivers and the Rift software.  But since i haven't found anyone else talking about this issue, i'm worried that it's just me and i'm going to have this terrible experience for the long haul.

Anyone have any theories, or guesses or suggestions?

I have an RTX 2080, no problems here, but it was an existing windows build, sound like a USB problem:(

Aré you using an add on USB board? Just curious.

I ran the Oculus compatibility tool and the first usb card that I had has failed. I picked up the inateck card and it seems better, The tool passs. It seems to work.  I don’t understand my new system has this problem when my old system was perfect,  I guess maybe this motherbosrd has poor USB ports. Seems wrong that I need an add in card for the rift to work properly.

Glad you got it sorted out in the end! 🙂

Certain USB controllers don't work well with Rift. It's not that they are "worse" or anything, just things with the drivers make them incompatible. In these cases, an add-on card is the best option. Thanks.

The issue where the Headset drops and won't return until reboot i haven't been able to reproduce anymore.  It was failing while the touch controllers were pairing, so i guess now that both are paired i can't get into the exact same state.  Running the setup, doesn't ask me to re-pair them.

However, the Headset was still consistently disconnected after awaking from sleep, requiring reboot every time i wanted to use it.

This thread helped with that:

I ever had that issue with my old system.

Hi guys!, I have MSI GS65 Stealth 85G Laptop i7 RTX2080. The display is black. All the setup is correct , I can hear the audio, and it worked 2 times... but not any more. I reinstalled the oculus software twice, I changed the USB connections 3 times, and tried various things... but it does not work... and NOW I'm in BIG trouble with a job to be done... any help or idea???

I am having continual problems, and it changes to something else as soon as I fix a workaround for something else.

So now I'm having problems with the DisplayPort not working, black screen, freezes - mostly if I keep restarting everything, plugging it all in and out again - after about 30 mins it works.  This isn't much use when I have an hour to play.

I wish I had waited and got the index. 😞
