I've had my Rift S for a few weeks now and I can honestly saying owning it has been a pretty terrible experience.
I only wish I'd read some of the complaints about it on various forums before purchasing it.
When in VR, it doesn't usually run for more than 15 minutes without exiting whatever application with no idea as to why. London in Google Earth VR pretty consistently crashes it.
I've tried it on two different setups - one DDR3 based athlon with a GTX 1060 6GB and now a ryzen 5 3600 with RTX 2060 super 8GB. Both with 16GB of RAM. Both have exactly the same problem. Once I got an error message telling me it had run out of video memory (apparently 8GB is not enough).
I've reinstalled software, updated Windows, used latest NVidia drivers, uninstalled anything I didn't think was necessary.
At this stage I thought I would ask for more suggestions before sending it back as not fit for purpose. Please don't tell me to reinstall windows, that is not an option.
Mainly I bought it for playing Elite Dangerous. When it works, it's great but there is nothing worse than being in the middle of a battle only for the game to just disappear and end up back on the desktop. After that, usually the system is so unstable only a reboot will fix it.
go get another one if its doing the same thing on 2 different systems it has to be the rift s thats the issue, more than likely its a bodged firmware update
when you first installed the oculus app did it say it was updating firmware? if so it could of messed the instalation up and i know of no way to flash the firmware on the rift s, but it could be your usb ports just going into sleep mode and turn them to always on in the advanced options in the power management on windows, thry that first but i feel this has happened on 2 different systems its more than likely the rift s
