From CV1 to Rift S

Anonymous

I've just got my Rift S a couple  of days ago, pretty happy with it. I've looked through the form and I'm still looking for info on why the Rift S will not go into standby mode like the CV1. I'm not sure about having to use Oculus Tool Tray to stop the services, when I stop the services the app will not restart when putting on the headset. This should be a fundamental function. Just wanted to know if anyone has resolved this.

I'm also trying to understand the sliding in and out adjustment so far. All it seems to do is make FOV smaller for me without any visual difference at all. The sound scheme was not thought out for a $400.00 system attached to a PC without much need for portability. Crazy heavy cord on your left shoulder as well.

I've upgraded but with the small issues it's not as happy experience as I thought it would be. The CV1 was thought out and developed by a small dedicated team. I think the Rift S is the result of the corporate bottom line mentality where the product is introduced on a timeline, mass consumer target rather the product is finished or not. Sorry, that's my two cents worth, hope the issue mentioned above can be resolved, very wierd for an upgrade of having to actaully start and stop services manually in Windows. But overall I'm happy with the product.
Thanks for reading.

i've just purchased (well re-purchased) a rift s too. I've gotten used to starting and stopping OVR Service even when using my old CV1, but i get where you're coming from. its annoying. not sure why its not just designed to go into standby mode all by itself. the Sliding in/out adjustment is really just for people to put al lil extra distance between their eyes for glasses wearers. not sure how well that works cuz im not risking scratching lenses putting glasses in there. might go with some prescription lenses to stick in there down the line. As far as the cord on the shoulder goes, i dunno if its an option for you, but try facing away from your pc so that the cord hangs off your back if you have room to do so.

the thing that still kinda gets me annoyed is the controller tracking. definitely still some issues  occluding one controller when the other gets in front of it at certain angles (trying to use a bow toy in oculus home feels hit or miss when trying grab the bowstring to draw it back). I feel like the quest actually has better tracking than the rift s at this point.
