Headset jitters and unacceptable customer support- Oculus Is a Joke

so after less than 20x using the rift hardware, we started getting jitters on the headset making it unusable. Reached out to customer support and after a week of going back and forth, they informed us that we were out of warranty and we needed to buy a new refurbished headset at 250.00. 800.00 plunked down for a piece of hardware that stopped working after less than 20x? This is not a 40.00 joystick. For them to expect us to pay another 250.00 for a headset with a 6 month warranty is insane. No discount to keep your paying customers happy? So now we have 400.00 worth of unuseable games, and two hat racks called sensors. Anybody else have this problem? Rest assured, we are being VERY vocal about our dissatisfaction.

If you're out of warranty and not covered by any other local consumer laws that supersede the warranty, then what are you expecting?  They're already offering you a discounted refurbished HMD.

Doesn't matter how many times you used it - even if just once. If the warranty is up (1 or 2 years dependant on where you live) then it's just too bad - that goes for anything you buy, not just an Oculus item.

I think it's very good of them to offer you a refurbished headset at 250 whatever currency it is. They would be within their rights to just say "too bad - buy a new one".

Be as vocal as you like - it won't change the facts or the law.

law depends highly on where you are, In the uk for example its basically a minimum of 2 years "fit for purpose" is the best argument. works everytime. regardless of what any t's and c's say

the only thing I will say is that AU warranty says a $1000 device should have 2 years warranty, but you'll need to goto consumer protection or similar to acquire it - Oculus only provide 1 year warranty unless you fight for it (and I don't have the time/energy).

it sucks, but ultimately not honoring extended warranty == profit
Though you are more than slightly incoherent, I agree with you Madam,
a plum is a terrible thing to do to a nostril.

Actually it doesn't. It sucks for both the company and customer - but you have to draw the line somewhere really. They are giving him a refurbished model for 250 - that doesn't say profit to me - more like - they are trying to help out, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere here.

Yea, but 20x could mean anything OP - I don't think arguing over the forums will help here - but there are just soo many variables to any product that could be causing you jitter - from software glitches to bad drivers - I wouldn't blame it on the device alone. Mine running smooth and I've used it quite a bit - less than most - but more than others depending on what I am using it for. I say this so you understand it's not a limit use problem, but something else maybe going on.

What kind of jitters?

You used your headset less then 20 times in 1 year? I take it that you aren't overly impressed with VR to use it less then 20 times in that amount of time. Also, jitters are usually caused by something on your computer or the sensors not setup correctly. What did Oculus say was causing jitters? I don't think I've heard of the headset alone causing jitters by itselt?

Did you try reinstalling your driver for your graphics card and running the Oculus setup again? Switching the usb's for the sensors just to refresh them? You tried things like this?

....or turning graphic settings down to low and working up. Or increasing ram, etc...

Yeah, changing headset because jitters sound pretty odd. 99,99% chances it come from the computer, on software or hardware side.
