Hi! Since I bought my Rift S I have done some modifications and I thought that I'd share them here if anyone is interested or want some inspiration (: I enjoy to improve things and make the my own, and now I pretty much have the ultimate Rift S for my purposes! This is what I have done:
1. Cable placement. The first thing I did was to attach the cable to the Rift more to the back. I used 3M dual lock tape and two cable clamps. Now the cable is in a much more comfortable position and I can easily reposition the clamps on the 3M surface if needed.
2. VR Cover. Apart from being much easier to clean I think the facial interface cover also improves the comfort, I cant recommend these enough!
3. Headphones. The sound in the Rift S is not the most immersive so I bought these highly adjustable headphone holders on eBay. The attach to the popular Koss Porta Pro headphones which was included and even came with a custom shorter cable. The only thing I changed was to switch the included straight 3.5mm plug to a 90 degree angled. To have great sound without having to plug in headphones every time is a big improvement for me as I really value ease of use.
4. Prescription lenses. Well if you use glasses you should consider buying inserts. Apart from the ease of use standpoint, Its much more comfortable! Another benefit is that they come with lens covers which protect from dust and sunrays when the headset is not in use. Mine are from Widmo VR.
5. "Carbon fiber" vinyl sticker: Useless, but looks good! (well I guess it can save you from some scratches). I hade some fake carbon fiber vinyl that I cut to fit on the front of the Rift S. It was pretty easy if you first cut it oversize and then trace with a sharp knife in the small gap around the edges.
6. Controller straps: Inspired by the Valve Index Knuckles controllers I made these for the Rift (you can purchase pre made). I made mine out of O-rings, Velcro and some spare parts. They are really comfortable and I like to be able to completely let go of the controller. It really increases the immersion, especially when you are throwing objects.
7. Wall hanger and cable holder: I use a guitar wall mount to hang the headset when not in use, and a microphone boom arm to keep the cable off the floor when using it.
What do you think, Anything I missed? I know some attach the HTC Vive deluxe audio strap, however I kind of like the fit of the original. What's your improvements?
