I’m Marc from Rosenheim in Germany. I want to introduce you my completely new gasket and strap design for the Oculus Rift S.
I have bought an Oculus Rift S as an upgrade for my Rift CV1. But I can’t get warm with the halo strap design. Because of the fixed angle between halostrap and headset it is impossible for me to find a position for comfortable fit and perfect sweet spot at the same time. I have to tight up the strap very strong, which leaves heavy pressure on my cheek.
For my wife and children it is unusable, because they can’t thigh it up enough for a stable fit with their smaller heads and long hairs. Additional the radius of the gasket is much bigger then on the Rift CV1. In result the headset is wobbling while playing their favourite game Beat Saber.
I also tried to replace the original foam with a more pleasant leather cover. The first one was especially designed for the Oculus Rift S and 11 mm thick. With this cover mounted, I couldn’t get a sharp image anymore. Second I tried the leather cover form my VR Cover upgrade of my Rift CV1. Last one is only 6mm thin, but it’s still a little thicker than the original foam. Even with the original foam I get distortions and loose of sharpness at the edges of the display. Unison with posts and videos from other users, the distance between the eyes to the lenses is too big. Removing the foam will eliminate visual problems but is really uncomfortable to wear.
And last the audio quality ...
First I wanted to replace it with a HTC Deluxe Audio Strap. But It isn’t available any more. So I decided to construct a welding mask adapter like many other people outside. But I did not only construct an adapter, I designed a completely new gasket to improve image quality and comfort of the Oculus Rift S! And the best off all, you don’t need any duct tape, velcro or screws for mounting it in order to keep your warrantee. Simply clip it on and you are ready to go!
I put a video of my headset on YouTube (Looking4). I hope you enjoy:

Here are the advantages of my gasket and strap for the Oculus Rift S:
- Simply clip on design, perfectly fitting to the Oculus Rift S headset
- Strong quality design for best durability
- Gasket radius like on the Rift CV1 (in my opinion the old radius fits perfect on my big head and likewise an small faces of my wife and children)
- Adjustable size on the strap
- Greatly balanced design. Weight is positioned on top of the head. Neutral pressure on face
- Reduced distance between eyes and lenses. It leads to a greatly improved image quality and a slightly bigger field of view
- More pleasant leather cover
- Ventilation holes for cooler sessions. Labyrinth design to keep light out.
- Easy to take on and find the right sweet spot
- Universal mounting hole for speakers
The strap adapter is also an universal design. It could easily be customized to use the new gasket with the HTC Deluxe Audio Strap.
Today I’m searching for a good audio solution. In the video I used an old gaming headphone as a first try.
Maybe you have suggestions for good sounding but not too expensive one? Other Options I have been thinking about are:
- Sennheiser HD25, because it’s easy to mount and sounds great. But it is moderate expensive.
- Rebuff Reality VR Ears to bring Oculus Rift S closer to a Valve Index
