@ShowbizDonkey I'm still waiting for an answer friend, why are you ignoring the questions?

Is it not still under warranty?
I would pursue returning for a refund and getting something else if they can not help you getting it running proper.

No its not. I've also spent well more on Oculus store games and various accessories than I ever did on the headset. Revive is not a solution either. All it does is capture frames, it still plays through the oculus software which does not work for me.

V17 finally pushed and working for me - only irregularity I see is that there is a blue banner at the top of the PC Oculus app now that prompts me to update my Quest software to use Link (beta) and to go to the settings and about page in my Quest to install an update. I'm on V16 (Quest) and there is no update to install. Still works with no issues. I'll probably enable the Rift PTC tomorrow as the update turned it off.

To quote you, you inadvertently said the answer to your own
question, and it's why you will never get a public response on your
questions in a public forum.
"unless you just don't desire to do so"

It's completely understandable that you are concerned about the intentions of Oculus/Facebook, with specific reference to the seemingly deliberate decision to answer very little about the Rift S.
As other's have pointed out, the Quest has outsold every HMD on the planet and with limited resources, they have a focus.

They clearly have an agenda, and many speculate that the Rift line of products is end of life, with a new V2 Quest in the works, which will most likely be the "do it all" product for standalone and PC tethered - it's pretty obvious with the sheer amount of focus on 'Link' and 'Link' issues.
It's really not a bad thing, once you get over the fact that you are the proud owner of a legacy dinosaur product.
VR is in it's infancy and there's always 'casualties' in the early years.
Oculus should at least ensure that critical issues with Rift are resolved so that owners can just use their products as intended. If your issue can't be fixed, and you have warranty then you get a replacement headset. If it's out of warranty (like mine) then that's tough luck unfortunately.

The one thing we can do is choose where we spend our VR dollars in the future, assuming we have competitive choices for next gen HMD's.

Good luck!

I'm on the good old CV1 that is now 4 years old. I can accept that this has become a 'dinosaur' product like you describe. But the Rift S was just released a year ago. It is just plain unacceptable that is would already be abandoned in support. IMHO you should at the very least get 2 years of full support for it and then maybe have it moved over to extended support (no new features, only bug fixes). And of course, if a new update breaks stuff, they have to undo it.

Some people are more than happy to stay on older versions and are perfectly fine with that meaning not be able to join in the latest social 'advancements'. At least let us have this option then, if you're not going to fix bugs due to newer versions.

I blocked your updates! I stay on v.16
just add in C:\Program Files\Oculus\
two empty txt files without .txt (rename and delete it)
Staging
tmp
With this files oculus software can't update automatically !!!

v.17.0.183 now updated :)))
in last v.17 I had constantly Black Screen HMD after few time in sleep.Reboot OVRService only for works my Rift S.
Try new v.17.0.183

Wait? So, did your block technique fail to work and you inadvertently updated to 17? Or did you remove your fix and choose to update?

Another thing worth trying is after any Oculus update fully shutdown your PC (not sleep or hibernate) and then restart.  This is often necessary in order for the update to fully install.  Another trick used in the past is to open your Oculus app, logout of your account then logon again.  I think that this is still in the friends section for some reason.

With the last Oculus drivers update, the Oculus app was updating with no error but after reboot was asking for update again and again.
The only way to correctly update the drivers was to first switch the audio output from Oculus virtual audio device to another output.

Mmmm so many years without important problems with my CV1 and from this new v17 update each time I want to use my CV1, it say I don't use an USB 3.0. I have to unplug / replug my USB at the same port to fix it. And right atfer, it say the HDMI is not connected, so I have to unplug/replug also the HDMI same port, and I'm good.

Oculus Devs, that's a step back, a real one, and painful...
