Please help the needy! Husband is a QUAD! VR needs only.

I purchased this Rift S for my husband whom is a quad. He has full head and neck movement and he used one at rehab hospital. Now Im having trouble finding a computer to run it. I am a Apple-Mac user and dont know what to buy. Ive got all the requirements but dont understand them 100%. Im not a gamer and this is over my head. Im looking to purchase a laptop for less than $1,000.  I came across this forum and Im seeing things that worry me about Oculus moving more toward the Quest version and the Rift S becoming obsolete. Can anybody give me insight on the Rift S, specific computer needed, and or if its going to be worth the time? It would only be used for VR and NOT gaming.

Maybe check with your husband's rehab hospital to see what PC specs they were using.  Esp. since it sounds like it worked well with his Rift S.  I would strongly advise against going with a Laptop.  You will get much better performance for a lot less cost with a desktop gaming pc.  Btw, any VR requires a good gaming pc whether you are doing VR gaming or not.

Go with at least the Recommended specs, not minimum specs imho.  You could probably take these specs to a local PC shop and see what they can offer you (and maybe help set it up for you).  They may even have an inexpensive used (or Demo) gaming PC available.  Good luck and cheers.

This will plug right up into your MACBOOK. Just add a decent gpu and you're in. You can even find these EGPUs on craigslist and offerup.

Honestly stay away from laptops some don't have a display port, you need a display port for the rift s.

As for macbooks ad egpu they won't have the driver support for oculus oculus is not mac friendly.

Oh thats not bad at all. I know nothing about the super gpus but I'm sure that PC will handle whatever with the ddr6 speeds.

Pretty silly to buy/build anything for PCVR without at least a RTX2070 or better gpu, an  i7 9700k or better cpu, 16Gb or better 3000-3600 ram, and at least 650w power supply (or better).
