Not sure if anyone has posted a link to this YouTube vid yet, but this kid is showing off positional head tracking using a Razer Hydra controller strapped to his head whilst using the Oculus Rift.

Ha, I knew somebody would do it before I got a chance.

My plan is actually to use a couple of AR tags stuck to the rift along with the webcam built into my computer to see how well I can get positional data using computer vision.

That's really cool. I'm surprised no ones done positional head tracking using the Kinect yet.

I think the Kinect has far too much lag to feel natural in a HMD.
Especially relative to all the other sensors in the Rift.

Wow! I ordered the Hydra when they were offering their 50% VR discount, but they wrote me that it take a while to arrive since they were out of stock. But this is exactly what I was planning to do. Is it accurate enough to completely replace the build in headtracker?

Maybe Oculus could use a similar system in their consumer version of the Rift 😉

Project Holodeck is using a Sony Motion for 6dof tracking, glued to a helmet. See http://www.projectholodeck.com/system

That was quick, and very clever! Excited to try this now...

Well this is one solution, even if it is a little make-shift.
