Post update battery drain

Does anyone know if the issue of battery drain has been fixed with this latest 25/07 patch for Oculus Rift S?

Everything is working fine, but I am still burning through batteries way faster than I ever did on my CV1. (at least 1 set a week)

Cheers

It is better than it was originally, however mine too drain pretty fast. At least the controller led turns off now, whereas before it would just always remain on or blinking.
I think it must be related to the tracking method being used in the Rift S, ie Inside Out versus Outside In for the CV1.

battery life on my Samsung Odyssey Plus  drains the batteries even faster as stated above inside out tracking drains the batteries pretty fast also the oculus touch controllers use only one AA battery where the WMR headsets controller use two AA batteries .

Yeah, I thought it would be due to the new tracking system, but hopped to get more out of the batteries than I do.

Will have to invest in some high mha rechargeable replacements instead.

Technically, the battery use should be very similar. While the tracking system changed, that's on the headset/sensors. The controllers work the same regardless of inside-out or outside-in. In both cases the controllers flash IR LEDs, communicate with a 2.4GHz wireless system and have haptics and capacitive sensors. Actually one less capacitive sensor on each controller now (the thumb rest and its sensor are gone). Also looking with a camera I can see that the old Touch has 24 LEDs and new Touch has only 15, plus the old ones look a little brighter and less flicker, so the tracking for the old Touch should drain the batteries more.

If there's a battery use difference, its probably how the firmware is detecting when to sleep. That's the big problem they've had for quite a while, they stay active far too long (I've had 12+ hours staying active when not in use).

A week isn't bad considering the Vive wands get about 6-8 hours. 🙂
Although I'd love it to go back to the 2017 battery life I had, months on a single set of AAs.

@kojack

In theory you are correct but battery life on inside out tracking on the four WMR headsets I own the battery drains very quickly compared to CV1.

I always forget to take batteries out ....maybe because i'm lazy and using mamut grips, but feels that batteries are out of power every time when i start session.

I have 4 rechargeable batteries so i have a fresh pair every time but still feels stupid how fast batteries drain.

That sounds more like an issue with the WMR design. 🙂

Well there is no question the batteries in the Rift S drain much, much faster than the batteries in the CV1.

No real difference for me. Both currently don't come close to how it used to be before Oculus "fixed" the firmware.
